@matkinsj@lewis_goodall No, the countryside has had enough of townies expecting the countryside to be a monastery of silence and complaining about the noises of tractors, sheep and church bells.
A young friend went to one three years ago in exactly the same position - not on benefits, naively hoped a Job Centre might, you know, help her with finding a job. They don't even let her do a job search. Told her to leave; their service was only for claimants.
One of my favorite data journalists is @jburnmurdoch and he is cooking once again with this piece: “In country after country the birth rate plunged after the introduction of smartphones, no matter what the previous trend was…the modern digital media environment has had profound effects on society that have led to a decline in romantic coupling”. You can already see where this is heading. Three months of discussion about personalities, factions and leadership intrigue, while serious policy debate barely gets a look in.
@lewis_goodall Does show that, for all the pearl clutching, many people do not actually want a “good community MP” who holds endless surgeries and turns up at every school fête. They want an MP who will, for better or worse, make an impact and shape the national conversation.
Where is Labour’s vote going? Labour are holding half their 2024 vote & losing support roughly equally left and right. 11% to Reform 8% to the Lib Dem’s, 8% to the Greens, 6% to the Tories and 1% to PC/SNP. However 11% don’t know (and tend to be more disillusioned left leaning)
@danbloom1 Keir Starmer and/or advisers are depressingly rubbish at politics. A big back-to-school speech is what you do.
Or will they realise their error. Plan one for next Thursday. Heavily trail it through leaks. Speech arrives they’ve changed the context and it’s a 3-minute presser?
Living in this country at this moment in time is what I imagine being sectioned is like when you’re perfectly sane.
You can see the insanity all around you, staff included, yet you can’t escape, reason & nor convince those in charge that they are profoundly mistaken.
Grim.
