When I was alive I campaigned for scientists work in astronomy to be recognized by the Nobel Prize in Physics. Shortly after my death, the Nobel Prize committee finally allowed it, sadly the prize could not be awarded posthumously.

One of biggest accomplishments was discovering that our universe is expanding at a constant rate, known as the Hubble constant.

With the use of the Hooker Telescope, the world’s largest telescope at the time. I found that the Universe goes much beyond the Milky Way Galaxy by discovering several nebulae that were far too distant to be part of the Milky Way.

When the U.S. declared war on Germany, I rushed to finish my P.h.D. So I could join the military. I served in the 86th division and rose to the rank of major.(Though I never saw combat)
