The Indopacom name change has, predictably, gone down like a lead balloon in India. Can’t imagine Australia and Japan are thrilled about it either. Nomenclature counts, because it says something about the ordering of priorities. Interested to see if State Department follows suit.
The decisive moment at the G7 summit came when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy showed snapshots of a burning Kyiv cathedral to U.S. President Donald Trump.
But it was French President Emmanuel Macron who ultimately pulled off a surprising coup.

The decision to expose the illegal presence of the People’s Republic of China’s floating, movable platform is not only about being transparent with the Filipino people and countering China’s lies.
It is also meant to inform the international community, like-minded states, and our allies and friends that China is once again violating UNCLOS, undermining the rules-based order, and jeopardizing the peace and prosperity of this region.
Because if we choose to stay silent — if we choose to look away from such unlawful acts — we only embolden the bully, convincing it that it can do whatever it pleases simply because it has the military and economic might to silence the rest of us.
But the Philippines will not be silenced. We choose to stand up to bullies!

Carney: I believe that President Macron's style, which is direct, it's concrete and it's ambitious, is well suited to making progress with all G7 partners very much including President Trump.
French President Macron once again emphasized yesterday what a special moment it is for Europe that 🇨🇦 is now the first country outside of geographic Europe to hold an observer role with the EU.
„It was a strong political signal, a symbol of what unites us.“
