So they used large-scale distillation: querying Fable extensively as a 'teacher' model to train Kimi K3 to mimic its outputs. The White House alleges they did this covertly with evasion tactics to avoid detection.
Is access truly equal? U.S. policy (export controls on frontier models + advanced chips like GB300s) deliberately limits China's above-board access to distill Fable or similar, unlike for allies or domestic users. That pushes workarounds.
What's notable is K3 beating Fable in some areas despite this. Suggests they layered real additional engineering, data, or architecture work on top of any distillation and not just copying. Interesting dynamic in the AI race.

Tipping has gotten out of hand. The auto check tablets offer 15-20-25-30% tip as standard. The average rule: You tip on the pre-tax amount, and 10% is low, 15% is median, 20% is good service, 25% is wow. $500, call it $475 pre-tax * 0.15 = $71.25 round to $72 or $75. 20% is $95 tip. $100 or over is very generous.

Yesterday's liberal is today's conservative when you adjust the scales. Rodenberry, the creator of Star Trek, was a World War II veteran and former police officer. He had liberal views for that era, but he would be a centrist optimist by today's standards; certainly not a modern "progressive". The individualism he portrayed through Kirk, Spock, and McCoy is reminiscent of strong heroic figures, not group think consensus seekers. You can measure the shift by the older episodes and movies' nod to beauty, masculine and feminine, to the blatant uglification of all characters in any relatively new, post-Rodenberry Star Trek.

@Adriksh I don't know why Ada/SPARK do not come up for the use cases people push Rust for. High-integrity, mission-critical applications should use Ada/SPARK. The legacy is there and Rust is no where near the tooling and formal verification of SPARK.

@ChShersh I am learning Fstar (F*) for this very reason. I worked with SPARK / Ada this past year. There is also the ironclad/GloireOS (SPARK-based) project. I think formal verification and high-assurance software needs more than Rust provides now. It is heading there though.

Maybe because the total US aid to Qatar, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Armenia, and Cuba adds up to less than $60m USD vs. the $3.8b in military aid given to Israel (63x more), and their meddling in US domestic and international affairs. Do you really want to group AIPAC in with those countries? That puts Israel in focus when you consider all things and dragging us into wars for their sake, not ours.
