Neither Nazis nor the USSR cared about international treaties. Deportation, murder, and terror followed any territorial occupation. In 1944, the most brutal mechanisms of Stalin's totalitarian regime were in place: the absolute transfer of power to Moscow, terror and political repression.
In 1944 and 1945, the Soviet Army entered Poland and used military force to crush the efforts of Polish citizens to restore their state. The Soviet propaganda machine tried to normalise the occupation by calling it liberation. The Soviet Union didn't have its own Nuremberg.

For #Poland and many countries in Central/Eastern Europe, 1944–45 did not mean #liberation, but a new domination by the #SovietUnion, accompanied by violence by the #RedArmy: looting, rape, and murder, as shown by the fate of two Polish #nuns.
