Many critics seized on the MOU as proof of U.S. weakness. Iran’s conduct since then suggests the opposite. Tehran needed fast access to funds, and Washington was cornering it further while steadying energy markets.
Mark, with all due respect — the UAE doesn’t need a permission slip from Washington to conduct its foreign policy. The UAE has 3 islands illegally occupied by Iran, a shared maritime border, and billions in bilateral trade exposure. Managing that reality isn’t “coddling” — it’s called statecraft, something that requires nuance beyond a cable news monologue.
The UAE stood firmly against Iranian proxies, hosted the US Fifth Fleet’s logistics, signed the Abraham Accords, and has been one of the most consistent partners in regional stability. If pragmatic diplomacy reads as weakness to you, perhaps the question is whether your framework is equipped to understand a region you’re watching from 7,000 miles away.
Frustration is understandable. Oversimplification, however, is not analysis.
My thoughts on the OPEC Exit quoted in
@EgyptOilandGas
The UAE wont subordinate decision-making to external parties & will chart its own path.
The exit is not the concern for markets ATM, it may help meet demand. The challenge is still the Iranian threat

The UAE just announced its exit from OPEC and OPEC+ on May 1.
Quotas costing the UAE ~$50–70B annually by 2028 against ADNOC's 5M bpd capacity. But the real story is bigger: the UAE doesn't pay rent to systems that no longer serve it.

Why, as an American, I defend the UAE!
My front page @eureporter article: In Middle Ages EU was lost but civilization flourished in Andalusia: Jews, Christians & Muslims thrived together. Direct ancestor to both West & UAE.

Hypothesis on next 24h: if Iran stalls the deadline, potential IL, not US, strike on Iranian infrastructure. Gives Trump deniability, preserves Israeli dominance, may avoid triggering Iranian retaliation on GCC. Not a restart of war A high risk mechanism for negotiations.
UAE authorities have dismantled a terrorist network linked to Hezbollah and Iran that was operating inside the country under fake businesses.
The cell aimed to finance terrorism and destabilize the economy and national security. All suspects arrested.
Zero tolerance for any foreign attempts to threaten the UAE’s stability. 🇦🇪
Epic Fury did not make the GCC less attractive. It proved how secure an economic hub the region is, and the conflict will be a catalyst for its next economic boom, around defense development, not just procurement

Amid the Hormuz coverage, 3 islands at the center of this crisis have gone completely unnoticed: Abu Musa, Greater Tunb, & Lesser Tunb. I explore the Emirati heritage of these islands: seized by Iran just as the UAE was born. and today overlooked by media

@realDonaldTrump sending @JDVance to Pakistan was a brilliant move to allign those in the White House and prove Iran cannot be reasoned with. Round 2 may begin soon with renewed Republican support.
Its too soon for a post-mortem on Epic Fury
Meanwhile, Hormuz is still closed. it’s a fragile pause and anyone claiming victory or defeat is motivated by politics rather then analysis.
