@ImNotOwned It overwhelmingly aired in the 21st century, it overlapped with the other shows listed, which were its peers competitors and desperate imitators shrug. It’s 21st century tv
@Stalker6Zauzich@ImNotOwned It’s an own goal against anti-system change for the same reasons. You aren’t sparking a revolutionary movement by telling people they are evil any more than you are winning an election
@JoePostingg Got to start them early on understanding the collapse of unions and industrial power and its effect on modern politics, obviously season 2
@ettingermentum Nixon very bad but the underrated part of watergate was it became public due to ongoing fight over whether fbi should become normal and answer to president as executive and whether presidential campaign should do underhanded stuff instead.
@ettingermentum Also underrated how the J Edgar Hoover fbi doing this was normal (they did illegal searches of Goldwater and passed info to lbj) and Hoover loyalists were annoyed Nixon was moving this in house
@xenocryptsite It’s also true in other things! The Latin poet Catullus is frequently doing direct riffs or updates of the Alexandrian poet Callimachus, there’s a reason a lot more people read Catullus today, he was better than his inspiration
@xenocryptsite As I watch more old films I think this is in fact largely the right model for movies! There’s lots of classic, important to film history works that are effectively unwatchable compared to their less important descendants. It makes the ones that truly stand out cooler!
@xenocryptsite Cher very strong in this for not quite egot for (best variety music or comedy special Emmy), best dance recording Grammy, and best actress Oscar.
@joepostinggalt Founded by gay warrior king in the 18th century, ass thoroughly kicked by napoleon under his nephew’s son, unified Germany into the empire under his nephews grandson
@Jamesonite@mattyglesias This is fairly overstated— labour was in government. In the first 35 post war years, labour was in government 17 years, the tories for 18. Thatcher/major then happened for 18 year and new labour for 13.
But yeah largely irrelevant to the failure of Starmer.
@yeselson@mattyglesias Which is what I find frustrating. I’m a ruthless pragmatist—I want to stop the right from winning elections by any means necessary and am willing to compromise on basically anything within reason. The people who pretend that’s what they want refuse to admit starmerism failed.
@yeselson@mattyglesias If you tell people to defect they will. Being mad at them for then defecting is childish, ruthless pragmatism demands seeing starmerism as a tactical disaster and looking for better approaches.
@mattyglesias I mean this chart is why I wish you and your allies would pause and reconsider a bit—this chart is the result of Starmer’s aggressive punching at the labour left, which gained him basically nothing on the right (including at the last ge) and has decimated labour on the left.
