Editorial Board @dissentmag. Think I started trend of labeling modern US Right as “revanchist.” Charming in person, but we’re not there. Also NBA/Warriors.
@ettingermentum That the median urban Dem moc is already to the left of those in PA/NJ—basically leftist liberals/liberal leftists—and so there is less motivation and ideological space to run a soc dem/dem soc race against them.
I'm detecting a significant shift toward pessimism in both Washington and Tehran just in the last 24 hours.
Failure to get a deal will be detrimental to both sides. Both will suffer.
Sadly, that is not necessarily how every faction within the two governments sees it...
@ticketdust@DavidKlion Of course. I’m just saying that the hatred of the masses is more than compensated for by the calculated admiration of the powerful few.
@DavidKlion Unfortunately in her case, the calculation becomes what you wrote but also includes, in the US today, includes this: “But: a loud, powerful minority, composed of democracy hating plutocrats and authoritarian racial nationalists, will enthusiastically support you forever.”
What makes hockey and soccer goals fun is that the plays are almost always broken up—those sports are not like basketball where most of the time teams get a shot off. So when a play works perfectly, it’s such rare and lovely thing.

For the top talent, this is a time for collective action, rather than getting fired one by one.
Tomorrow, U.S. distillate inventories will likely fall under 100 million barrels for the first time in over 20 years, exacerbated by high exports due to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz- this is a powder keg waiting to go off if a deal to reopen the Strait doesn't happen soon
@gbrew24 Yes, makes sense, but yet Iran is not willing to completely throw Hezbollah under the bus. Given this decline as a deterrent, Hez seems to be relying on Iran providing ideological solidarity without getting nearly as much material benefit from Hez.
@gbrew24 Interesting. That is a subtlety which sounds like it would be hard to get the Israeli to agree to in writing—more like an idiomatic process whereby Trump tells the Iranians, “Don’t worry, I’ll sit on Netanyahu.”
