“When you go to the hospital, you get tested. They get paid more. When you get admitted for COVID, they get paid more. When they put you on remdesivir, they get paid more. When you get ventilated, they get paid more. When you die, they get paid more. This is perverse.”

The Action: Three children were trapped in the murky, dark water underneath the inverted hull. Without hesitation, Horne dived under the vessel, located the children by touch, and pulled them out one by one.

Horne told Emilie to stay in their boat and call 911, then dived under the inverted hull. Visibility was poor; he located the children by feel, grabbing life jackets. He pulled out a boy who was conscious but lethargic, then a girl who was not breathing. He performed CPR on her on top of the hull until she gasped. Bystanders helped tilt the boat, and the third child, tangled in rope and without a pulse, surfaced. Horne performed CPR on him as well. All three children survived and were taken to hospitals. They later reunited with the Hornes.

I need to tell you something that makes me angrier than anything else in medicine.

60 randomized controlled trials. 323,950 patients. Every cholesterol-lowering drug ever made. Statins. PCSK9 inhibitors. Ezetimibe.

One question. Did lowering LDL cholesterol make people live longer?

Look at the chart. Every dot is a trial. The red line is zero benefit. If these drugs saved lives, the dots would be above the line.

They are not. They reduced LDL by up to 80%. Nobody was saved.

But that is not what makes me angry.

What makes me angry is that millions of people believe they are safe because their LDL is low. Their doctor says "your numbers look great." They go home and never think about it again.

Meanwhile the 12 things that actually cause heart disease are silently building inside them. Nobody is checking. Nobody is testing. Because a cholesterol number gave everyone a false sense of security.

That is not a failure of medicine. That is a fraud.
