We are an Angus Council Early Learning and Childcare Centre in Forfar, one of two new stand-alone settings in Angus and the second biggest in Scotland.
This term has seen us hold four seperate days for our Stay & Play sessions; where we invite our parents in to have the opportunity to play with their child and join us in day to day life in the nursery. These have proven to be very successful and enjoyable for all.
The DM3 children have enjoyed exploring their senses. Different opportunities have been available to encourage the children to explore their senses; describing the world around them, giving examples of things they see, hear, smell, taste and feel.
As part of our planned learning, the children have had different opportunities to mark make both indoors and outdoors using a variety of materials. Most of our children are confident when mark making, with a few requiring some support to grasp their mark making materials.
As part of developing the nursery garden and encouraging the children's learning at Forfar ELCC we are looking to create a greenhouse out of plastic bottles. Any donations of 2 litre plastic bottles would be greatly appreciated.
All children this term have had the opportunity to take part in Kodaly with Mrs Han. These sessions have encouraged the children to participate actively and use their voices through singing activities, as well as performing a range of simple and repeated gestures together.
The children have been learning about the different kinds of foods people need to keep themselves healthy. We have explored this through visiting a local supermarket, making healthy smoothies, trying new foods and other different provocations throughout the setting.
We were lucky enough this week to have a visit from Bookbug. He brought along the local Librarian to hold a Bookbug session with the children and to deliver the Explorer bags to all our 3 year old's. The children enjoyed stories, songs, hi 5's and cuddles. @scottishbktrust
Wed 25 July marked our end of term celebration for our 2025 leavers, we marked this occasion by throwing a Stay & Play session for parents/carers. The children moving on to their next adventure will be missed by all staff and peers at Forfar ELC. We wish them all the very best.
As we approached the final few days of term for our DM1 children, we were focusing on creating our own patterns with different materials, sharing our thoughts and feelings linked to changes as well as exploring sounds, letters and familiar words such as our names.
During Easter Break the DM3 children had a visit from our local Police Officers following an interest in people who help us. They learnt the different roles the officers play within the community as well as learning about the uniform they have to wear and apparatus they use.
We have enjoyed following the life cycle of a Butterfly. The children had the opportunity to release these at our local community garden this week following them emerging from their chrysalis. All ten of our caterpillars successfully hatched.
The children have been exploring risky play opportunities both outdoors and at the local park, where they have been learning to manage and assess risk when jumping, climbing and playing at height.
Over the last few weeks, we have had fun exploring different Celebrations throughout the calendar year, focusing on Burns Night & Chinese New Year. The children were provided with various learning opportunities using crafts, food tasting & a visit to our local Tartan shop.
We have had the pleasure of welcoming Mrs Ramsay into the setting to provide the children with Kodaly sessions. These sessions focus on helping us develop musical skills and musical literacy through games, songs and activities. The children thoroughly enjoyed taking part. 🎵🎵
