You’re not being punished for being average, you’re being punished for believing your completely ordinary traits should attract any woman you desire.

Women aren’t ignoring good men. They’re ignoring men who think they’re entitled to her as a reward for clearing the lowest bar.

While it's possible to have multiple solutions, for example negative five, one can also go for the more simple answer and simpler version like the one that I gave. You don't have to use formulas in order to get a correct answer even if it's simpler. It's not about if you're at high school or not, it's about if you learned at least some math properly.
