Dia histórico para o multilateralismo. Após 25 anos de negociação, foi aprovado o Acordo entre Mercosul-União Europeia, um dos maiores tratados de livre comércio do mundo. A decisão chancelada pelo lado europeu une dois blocos que, juntos, somam 718 milhões de pessoas e um PIB de US$ 22,4 trilhões.

Em um cenário internacional de crescente protecionismo e unilateralismo, o acordo é uma sinalização em favor do comércio internacional como fator para o crescimento econômico, com benefícios para os dois blocos.

O texto amplia alternativas para exportações brasileiras e investimentos produtivos europeus e simplifica regras comerciais para os dois lados. Uma vitória do diálogo, da negociação e da aposta na cooperação e na integração entre os países e blocos.

I welcome today’s decision by the Council to approve the EU–Mercosur Agreement.

This agreement is good for Europe.
▪️ It delivers real benefits for European consumers and businesses.
▪️ It is important for the EU’s sovereignty and strategic autonomy - with this agreement, the EU is shaping the global economy.
▪️ It strengthens workers’ rights, environmental protection, and safeguards for European farmers.
▪️ It demonstrates that rules-based trade partnerships are win-win.

I had a meaningful conversation with Bulgarian Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov and expressed gratitude for Bulgaria’s unwavering support for Ukraine. We deeply appreciate the solidarity of the Bulgarian people.

We discussed ways to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine. A key component of this is effective security guarantees, which will only work if they are shared and upheld by all our partners.

I also briefed him on my recent discussions with the leaders of partner countries. I am grateful for Bulgaria’s willingness to work together to bring closer the day when a just and lasting peace is established in Ukraine. This unity is exactly what we need right now.

I strongly condemn the large scale attacks against Israel and the Hamas terrorist infiltration from Gaza. The violence must be stopped immediately to avoid further escalation of the conflict.
