in my search for optimism: apparently private actors coordinating auditors without government has precedent. after Three Mile Island the nuclear industry established INPO. fully privately funded and establishes guidelines across the industry. notably they send out their own form of auditors. still a cornerstone of the industry today!

it's becoming quite difficult to be optimistic about the US government doing anything sufficient wrt AI policy anytime soon. is it really just a matter of waiting for AI's Three Mile Island accident and hoping for the best?
