Here's an article I just published in @JITSmag about some drama in the jiu jitsu world. Using ideas from labor organizing, I argue that the #craigjonesinvitational has to be held the same weekend as #ADCC to be successful in getting athletes better pay.

I applied for a bunch of Academic jobs, but no luck. My postdoc ends on 12/31/23 & I need a job (remote) to support my family. I'm applying for Data Science & GIS jobs, but difficult to get a foot in the door somewhere. Any tips?

My new paper on the apparent resilience of white-tailed deer to human hunting in precolonial Connecticut is now out in JAS: Reports - check it out here:

Native folks were hunting lots of deer but also creating habitat for them via controlled burning. Their ecosystem engineering may have counteracted any hunting pressure!
But none of this is set in stone - stay tuned for the rest of my dissertation and more evidence!
There doesn't seem to have been much hunting pressure on these deer before European colonization, but this isn't definitive yet. The body size of these deer was also much larger than those in the region today. These were some big animals with big antlers, and fire may be why!

The U.S. used generations of Native children as the tip of the spear in attacking tribal sovereignty. Will we learn from our past? Or—while we are still recovering the bodies of previous gens of Native children—betray the next?
