Today the tutorial was very interesting, especially how zumthor's buildings may look so normal on the outside but have very interesting building processes and also how he makes clean finishes

@_nwhe Though these houses look really nice, even if you could afford it, it wouldn't look or function the same in Singapore as you wouldn't get the same view and the outdoor couch feature will not be practical due to the intense heat and rain #be904
@JimmyTanJiaMing I don't think they would use a roof to cover it as it spoils the facade of the building. Perhaps they have a water proof cover for the couches or perhaps it doesnt really rain over there #be904
@JimmyTanJiaMing I think what mr keith said was true, that we shouldn't think that we are creative because most designs exist already. What we should be aiming for instead is to be innovative and learn from other peoples past mistakes.
@joellzj24@ZhengKaiV2 I'm sure there are ways to make bamboo look modern like painting over it and treating it to make it look like a different material.
Scavenger firms are smaller and give you experience in a wider variety of roles though only in small projects, whereas megafirms will offer you fewer but more specific roles and you get to work on a wider variety of projects e.g malls/hotels

One question I have is what are the pros and cons of being in any one of the main categories of architecture practice? (end/)
#be904#be904_5#be904_5_2#s1w16
look into the details to understand the simplification. God works in miraculous ways, and only when we study it deeply do we understand why it is the way it is. Why Mies simplify this aspect to become that. How he lessened it. (end/) #be904#be904_3#be904_3_3#S1W11
I think that the way these 2 famous phrases by Mies is meant to show the relationship between how the intricate details affect the overall aesthetic. We say "Less is more" as a guiding sentence to simplify structures, but it is when we (1/) #be904#be904_3#be904_3_3#S1W11
I learnt how to classify local firms into the various characteristics of local architectural practices and
identify the traits of the types of local practices, the predominant types of projects in
which they engage in.

@evadarch Happens to the best of us… don’t be too hard on yourself. Lesson: always question your own biases and assumptions. Jordan Peterson: always assume that the person who’s talking to you knows more than yourself.
#NoteToMyself
Many iconic buildings are good examples of styling but terrible examples of design.
Even though Low's buildings may not look very stylish, its beauty is in its inner workings. When designing, we shouldn't just copy what we see for what it is on
#be904#be904_3#be904_3_1#S1W17
That way, the design is not blindly replicated, but actually evolved to suit the needs of the user and specific site better and hence shows a good design.

In the lecture it says, the essence of architecture is the art of asking relevant questions. Then what kind of questions should we consider asking during the process to make good discoveries? (/end) #be904#be904_3#be904_3_3#s1w17
@Thet__Htar__ Relevant questions could have something to do with what ping mentioned about first principle thinking and understanding the inner workings of a building.
