@FoodingWithMae I agree! I can’t help but reflect on the impact that our shorter attention spans will have on the way we interact with digital media. We might interact with content often but I don’t think we’ll pay much attention to it or it’ll lose relevance quickly! #ccom315#FutureOfWriting
I truly believe that while the message will be more interactive and made easier to share through the affordances offered by these apps, the lack of writing and context may alter the message the post is portraying. #ccom315#315slides#FutureOfWriting
I believe the #FutureOfWriting will include an increased amount of disinformation. Specifically, with the rise in popularity of social media platforms such as tiktok and instagram information spread will prompt an increase use of multimedia such as images, gifs and emojis.
In my opinion, its crucial to take a "laissez-faire" approach to social media especially if active on multiple social media outlets. Without it, the affordances of these outlets can make the experience overwhelming! #315slides
@mayaelle10 I tend to struggle with finding a balance as well! I recently edited my notification settings on the social media outlets I use most. While it has made me a little less connected, it has given me a little more control! #315slides
Editing Wikipedia was both easy & empowering. It was great to have a certain control over the information that was being broadcasted to the world. When editing, I also felt a moral obligation to ensure that my contribution was accurate & clearly stated #ccom315#315wikichallenge
With wikipedia, the ability to determine and pick out what information is important is lessened greatly as essentially anyone is capable of adding information they deem to be important! #315slides
I think Wikipedia is labelled & considered to be unreliable source as it is an open source that can be edited by anyone. This said, I think this also plays a role in how the the education system determines what important knowledge and what is not.
I do agree with Doyle in terms of the importance of inclusion of all topics. However, I don’t think that addressing omissions is the responsibility of the users, but rather, users should be educated to think critically about the information they consume on Wikipedia. #315slides
Wikipedia’s commitment to “verifiability” decreases its chances of being susceptible to fake news (as is not the case with social media outlets). Requiring users to credit information and include references to original sources increases its reliability #315slides
Players and coaches, including Stanford sports performance coach Ali Kershner, posted photos illustrating the differences in facilities.

My open letter blog post #4 will be written to the NCAA regarding the inequalities between female and male amenities at the March Madness tournament! #315pitches#CCOM315
@MelodieFortin8 I had a similar experience! I also scored 485 points, and tended to think that overly right-wing ideas were examples of fake news. I was surprised that I also questioned overly positive examples too (like the author and his donations). #315fakenews
Also, people now have the ability to contribute to and produce fake news, with a small (or non-existent) cost of entry. This wasn’t the case with historical predecessors, where most people simply absorbed fake news (like propaganda). #315fakenews
I think the prevalence of fake news has drastically risen as more people are spending more time in front of their screens absorbing it. I feel as though the more it is seen the more it is replicated and in consequence the more people are subject to coming across it. #315fakenews
In the past couple years, I definitely associate the term fake news to American politics and to its mode of spreading being social media. I was unaware of the term “Post Truth” but it definitely ring true when reflecting on the media from and around the former POTUS #315fakenews
This intersect between digital activism and fandom is interesting as it poses the question of whether or not these activists are simply mimicking the actions of those they admire and are playing a part in slacktivism or if they actually believe in the message trying to be shared.
Responding to this week’s class content, its clear online activism has given marginalized groups a voice and can be seen as a positive aspect of modern society but also, that the outcomes of online activism are often unknown, unclear and uncontrollable. #315slides
So, while intention may be positive, such as K-pop fans defusing racist hashtags, the digital behaviours of many can alter the environment for many more and sometime yield negative outcomes.
