@MaryLynneCCOM I fully agree! I can't even work out or cook without a show in the background, I just get bored...But, I also think this is because we need distractions from our current covid-filled reality..at least I know I do 🤷♀️
@s44444ndy I definitely agree with that! The movie industry is also going though the same thing, to hold our attention the average shot length has decreased from 12 secs (1930) to 2.5 secs (now)... for a total of 1250 shots per movie!!
@LucieMurataj Because we don't have this technology yet, most of us stick to "background checks" before a first date. It's scary to think how because of our online identity we have the opportunity to get to know the person we are about to go on a date with before we actually meet them!
What I noticed from the #FutureOfWriting predictions is how most people believed that the majority of writing will occur on social media making it more digestible! Considering our attentions spams are decreasing this predictions seems very likely! #ccom315
I agree with Boyd that the benefits of online participation can outweigh the pressure of being "always on" IF a balance⚖️ is found! B/c building an online network is only beneficial if it is in addition to our real world encounters since they have a more direct impact! #315slides
I feel like being "always on" is a lifestyle choice where the more you participate the more it becomes an expectation that you do and the less natural it is. For example, youtubers who post weekly must do so and as a result some of their content feels a bit forced 📺#315slides
I was very surprised by how hard it is to add new images to the Wikimedia Commons, the copyright laws are so restrictive! Your best bet is to post your own picture (which is probs why a lot of pictures on Wikipedia are not professionally taken)! #ccom315#315wikichallenge
@cathehall1 I had the same experience and still do! As a poli major I feel like Wikipedia has always been a huge taboo! But, I never realized the information is cited! This has given me a new perspective on it! #315slides
Although I agree with Doyle that we have a responsibility to document everything/everyone, I wonder the extent to which it is important for the information to be on Wikipedia specifically, considering Google/Safari can also serve as a documenting platform? 🤔💭 #315slides
Pitch idea: A resource post on all my favorite Montréal coffee ☕️ shops to work in (and I've been to many!!) for when covid restrictions are lifted and we are all eager to work anywhere else but at home or at the library #315pitches
Pitch idea: writing my open letter to nutu to praise their sustainable use of moringa 🌿to create edible products with amazing health benefits #315pitches (https://t.co/ScvNCOSP30)
I used to never read past news headlines, until one day I stated the headline of an astronomy article with a physics major around who fully fact "shamed" me (turns out NASA hasn't discovered a parallel universe 😅)...But I learned my lesson: you need the whole story! #315fakenews
During the pandemic, there has been a lot of fake news b/c people are sacred and uncertain about the future. This is exactly how Trump spread around fake news: he based his info on fear instead of logic (aka. post truth) which his followers irrationally believed 📰 #315fakenews
@LucieMurataj I'm torn 🤷♀️... I definitely agree, I think that reposting does mean that you are spreading awareness and by default informing yourself! But, I also feel like when people repost they don't feel as obligated to take action since they feel they have already done their part!
@Slendersoap I feel the same way...does not giving a second thought to this mean that you aren't biased and thus not part of the problem ORR does it mean that you are not responsible and aware and thus are part of the problem? 🤔
@BrasParker Sometimes I feel like I am guilty of this...as our careers approach I feel like I have to choose ONE category (e.g business/artistic/scientific) to work in but like you said there is much diversity within a "business person" career so thinking like this isn't realistic at all!!
I've always found it very disturbing when people use black emojis when they aren't..I feel like people tend to use very random emojis when doing this to justify that there is no correlation with color, but it is still cultural appropriation no matter the emoji #315slides
I never participate in giveaways because I feel I am being exploited since they often require you to re-post something on your instagram story and/or send it to one or more of your online followers! So, I am doing free marketing for them 😒! #315slides
