Nobody is kink shaming Kristi Noem’s husband. If he wants to dress up like that, more power to him. It’s the hypocrisy of it happening in yet another christian conservative family by someone who’d probably publicly persecute someone else for doing the same.
I just don’t see how we can pretend even for a moment that anything involving our federal government is remotely normal when the president is covering up his involvement in a child sex trafficking ring. Like, what are we doing here
The Grok fiasco underlines one of the biggest threats from AI: technocrats using it for social engineering purposes. Sure, this time it was obvious, but don’t think there aren’t ten thousand other ways it’s more subtly biasing society towards the interests of malevolent power
LA having multiple rad historic theaters sitting decaying is the most fucking depressing thing. It makes no sense and its so frustrating. this city needs an infusion of people with money who actually give a shit about movies.
Is everyone fucking nuts? Did we actually believe that after decades and decades of studying the brain and coming up with next to zilch, that a handful of rich, arrogant midwits in Silicon Valley would come to a full understanding of consciousness and deliver to us artificial general intelligence? Do you know that the Swiss Blue Brain Project and Human Brain Project, both terminated last year after years of expensive research, which sought to digitally reconstruct entire brains, discovered next to nothing useful about intelligence or consciousness, except that a brain, even a mouse brain, is so complex that it overwhelms super computers? Ten years of the HBP made "no major contributions" to an understanding of the brain. We do not understand the mind or the brain. AI is a toy, a fake. What we have is a language model—an algorithm. Give it up. It is a joke.
Big part of the AI enthusiasm is that it taps into the eternal capitalist dream of creating value without labor, of being able to keep the whole system going free from any dependency on class relations
here's one thing about this:
if you film 10,000 real humans on horseback in the himalayas... every time someone sees that shot they'll think "wow, this is amazing"
if you generate it in one click with AI, it will wash over everyone and they'll never think about it again
If you “make” a movie, a song, an essay, an image using AI you actually didn’t make anything. You are not an artist, you are not creative, and whatever the machine churns out has no value and deserves no attention. Even if every single artist loses their job, you’ll never be one.
