📌SAVE THE DATE: 5th International Conference on Functional Neurological Disorder next year in Italy! 🇮🇹
This multi-disciplinary conference brings together international experts from a range of backgrounds including neurology, physiology, psychiatry, psychology and ethics.
Study presented by @LauraHarbertSLT of 15 trached patients unable to tolerate cuff down w/ whom ACV was trialled:
- 74% demonstrated improved ICU FCS score with most going from 1 to 4
- 67% demonstrated increased frequency in saliva swallows
- Only 1 patient reported discomfort
Incredibly powerful talk from @bennoivory on structuring and giving nuance to delivering bad news, including the need to provide silence and resist the urge to fill it to allow families to process. “If the silence doesn’t feel too long for you, then it’s not long enough.” #SOA23
So proud to have shared this platform with so many amazing #ICUMDT members at the #SOA23 congress. Today I presented on how Above Cuff Vocalisation can benefit our patient’s communication and swallow. @ICS_updates@GSTT_ICU@RCSLTTracheCEN#SLT
Shocking statistics from Dominique Byrne this morning: 25% of hospital patients don’t know why they are there. Average adult reading age in UK is 9yrs old. We need to think carefully about how we explain things to our patients and their families. @ICS_updates#SOA23
