This comprehensive meta-analysis included 45 trials of hypnosis for clinical pain and found hypnosis to be a very efficacious intervention for the alleviation of clinical pain and to be moderated by the methodological quality of the trials and by hypnotic suggestibility.

The lead author, Dr. Milling, is a professor of psychology at the University of Hartford with research interests of psychological interventions for physical pain, specifically how they work and who might benefit the most.
