Depressing front page on Irish Mail on Sunday.

1. We all know and have known for years, that nearly all the weekly asylum "arrivals" into Ireland come via N Ireland

2. The ministerial responses are anonymous (that's the John Lee signature). But this unnamed minister sounds a lot like the junior asylum minister Colm Brophy. Whoever it is, the claim "we believe checks on buses and trains are effective" is a brazen falsehood. You will NEVER see a Garda on the Enterprise Belfast-Dublin train (you will see the odd PSNI officer on the NI leg, trying to stop illegal entry from the Republic into NI). And the Operation Sonnet (update in July 2024 below) "Days of Action" on buses are pathetic, maybe once a month on average.

Crap journalism and crap politicians. Depressing.
