No sentence can undo the devastation that Henry Nowak’s family have suffered.
After careful consideration, I have made the decision to refer this case to the Court of Appeal.
It is now for the court to decide whether to increase the sentence.

Extremely pleased and relieved that this Labour Gov is banning social media for under-16s.
As a mum of a pre-teen, it’s the thing that keeps me up at night. I know many of my constituents feel the same. That’s why I called for a ban, and I am delighted we’re implementing one.
Despite the rain, the local community came together for a brilliant street party last weekend and raised £375 for @StChrisHospice.
Lovely to drop the donation in and meet the team. Thank you to everyone who supported such a great cause!
Tackling VAWG is my number one priority as Solicitor General. This week I met with Andrea Simon the @LDNVictimsComm to discuss improving access to justice, strengthening support for victims of VAWG, and tackling court delays.
Lovely to visit Amir today, a new Persian restaurant with brilliant food and service on Lordship Lane.
Plenty of veggie options on the menu. Great to meet Amir, the owner, too - highly recommend giving it a try!
Thank you to Max for inviting me down to FitFor Gym on Lordship Lane.
Great to hear how this brilliant business has been here for almost 20 years and how the Government can do more to support gyms and for people to stay active and healthy!
Thank you to @KNFMHBV for hosting their honour based abuse definition reception in Fawziyah Javed’s memory.
Thanks to their campaigning we’re now introducing an honour based abuse definition. This is a huge step forward in supporting victims.
Great to be out speaking to constituents in Crofton Park ahead of the council by-election, including on Ebsworth Street where I lived for most of my 20s. Lovely to see some old neighbours again!
A huge congratulations to No. 41 Coffee on their 10th anniversary!
Lovely to stop in and celebrate this milestone with them. Here's to many more years.
Great to pop into the wonderful @StChrisHospice to pick up some collection buckets for my street party tomorrow. They amazing work across Lewisham and Southwark, I am really proud to support them.
Great to bump into the fabulous Rosie Fox this morning. My boys loved @FOXTOTS when they were little. She is at the Honor Oak pub every Friday morning - highly recommend!
FGM is violence against women and girls. It must be stopped.
Thanks to @KerryMP for her vital question on this.
As Solicitor General, tackling VAWG is my number one priority and I'll keep fighting to end FGM.
I spoke to TfL yesterday alongside @vickyfoxcroft and reiterated that passengers must not see their journeys disrupted or miss important appointments to @KingsCollegeNHS as a result of the reduction in service.
I am deeply concerned about the changes to the frequency of the 484 bus.
I know what a vital route it is for local people and that's why @vickyfoxcroft and I have written to @TfL requesting a meeting to discuss the impacts of these changes and for them to be reversed.
Yesterday, I met with TfL representatives and raised our brilliant community petition about extending the 63 bus route.
I’ll continue to push for this change that I know would greatly benefit many in our local community.
Our hardworking councillors in Peckham Rye Vikki and Renata have been campaigning to extend the 63 Bus route to Honor Oak Park Station.
This weekend they handed our petition to @SadiqKhan, thank you to the over 700 people who have signed so far!
I want to see a national roll out of the Victims’ Right to Review pilot by the end of the summer.
Because of this pilot, cases that would have been dropped are continuing, ensuring victims of rape are heard, treated with fairness and dignity.
Great to meet with @KanishkaNarayan about the social media consultation.
Thousands of parents in my constituency are calling for a ban for under 16s, a view shared by my own 11-year-old!
Grateful for Kanishka’s time and determination to improve online safety for children.
Enough is enough @thameswater.
Residents in SE22 and SE15 have had little or no water for days and now a primary school has had to close. This is completely unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately.
