The Victims’ Code promises fundamental rights after crime, but inconsistent delivery leaves too many victims sidelined.

This consultation is a chance to fix that - to improve the Code, rebuild trust, and ensure victims are properly informed and supported

I’m delighted to announce that Andrea Simon will be London’s new independent Victims’ Commissioner. Andrea will be a strong, independent voice for victims of crime & will work tirelessly to help reform the criminal justice system so that it supports victims every step of the way.

Stalking Protection Orders are a vital tool, but the current legislation leaves gaps in protection.

Incoming Commissioner Claire Waxman outlines why the Crime and Policing Bill must be amended to better safeguard stalking victims - and why these amendments have her backing👇

(1/2) For the first time, this year’s SFO Annual Report engaged directly with the families of victims affected by SFOs through survey responses and in-person meetings. Here, you can listen to Sam’s testimony. https://t.co/QjQymaGsX9 https://t.co/JkrlBko7cE

Less than a week after discussing this campaign on our panel at the Prima Facie screening, this is welcome news. Huge credit to the campaigners who tirelessly pushed for this vital law change to end the use of so-called “victim bad character” evidence https://t.co/7KAZIHC1AU

[Victims’ Commissioner for London @LDNVictimsComm]

It has been the honour of a lifetime to serve as London's Victims Commissioner, and on my final day I want to thank everyone who has enabled this role to have such an impact. You can read my final statement below and newsletter here: https://t.co/ogsLfOzppq

[Victims’ Commissioner for London @LDNVictimsComm]

A brilliant evening chairing a panel discussion after screening Prima Facie. Panellists called for an end to using victims' "bad character” evidence and examined whether jury-less trials could reduce agonising delays. Rape victims are being failed, and reform is long overdue.

[Victims’ Commissioner for London @LDNVictimsComm]

Tomorrow we’re screening Prima Facie and hosting a panel with @sarahsackman @RapeCrisisEandW @RKarmyJonesKC, Katrin Hohl OBE & ‘Violet’, a brave survivor.

We will discuss why bold reform is essential to keep victims engaged and prevent the justice system from collapsing.

13 years ago today, stalking became a criminal offence - but is it truly protecting all victims?

Stalking is one of the most common forms of online abuse against women and girls.

This #IDEVAW, take a stand: call for stronger protections and an end to digital abuse. #NoExcuse

[Victims’ Commissioner for London @LDNVictimsComm]

Each year on #IDEVAW, @CountDeadWomen honours the memory of all women whose lives were taken far too soon as a result of male violence.

It’s a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of VAWG - and of the urgent work still needed to end it ⬇️

[CountingDeadWomen @CountDeadWomen]

25 November is the international day for the elimination of violence against women. Today, we’ll be posting the UK women killed by men since #IDEVAW last year. We are commemorating one woman every 5 mins.

I know how hard @travisfrain and @survivors_a_t have campaigned for a national day of memorial.

I’m so pleased to see today’s announcement of a National Day on 21 August - a moment for us to come together and stand in solidarity with all those affected by terrorism.

[Dan Jarvis MP @DanJarvisMBE]

Victims and survivors of terrorism deserve our unwavering support and recognition.

Our new National Day on 21 August will ensure we can stand together as a nation to recognise all that they have endured.

Appalled to see footage of protestors trying to break these conditions. Protesting outside a synagogue isn’t peaceful; it’s intimidation of the Jewish community. After the Heaton Park attack, it’s clear that a protest like this would cause alarm and distress to the community.

[Metropolitan Police @metpoliceuk]

Earlier today we were made aware of plans for a pro-Palestine protest outside St John’s Wood Synagogue this afternoon.

We understand why the group's decision to protest at this location will cause concern to some communities.

There is no legal mechanism to ban the protest from taking place, however we have used Public Order Act conditions to prevent disorder and disruption.

Anyone participating in the protest must not enter the blue shaded area on the map below.

Another protest – organised by Stop the Hate – is expected to take place at the same location. The same conditions apply to this group.

Officers will be in the area throughout the afternoon and evening.

Any further updates will be shared on this thread.

Preparing to go to court as a victim is incredibly tough. But we can ease some of the stress - with dedicated prep sessions for cross-examination, virtual courtroom tours and clearer information every step of the way. Victims deserve this support https://t.co/n6SffAhJUv

[Victims’ Commissioner for London @LDNVictimsComm]

We must transform how victims and witnesses are supported before trial. Victims need dedicated sessions to prepare for cross-examination, virtual courtroom tours and clearer, trauma‑informed communication throughout the process.

Wrapping up eight years of work with @metpoliceuk. We have come a long way improving the service to victims in London, but there is still so much to do both in policing and the wider justice system. I look forward to continuing this vital work in the national role.

Absolutely delighted to see @charlottschreu win the @WomeninMarketin award for the @OpenJustice4All campaign - so well deserved! 👏

Very proud of what this campaign has achieved, all from a conversation between Charlotte and a judge at my Victims Summit just over two years ago.

[Charlotte Meijer @charlottschreu]

My campaign for @OpenJustice4All won the @WomeninMarketin Social Impact Award. We crafted a campaign with the support of so many. Thank you to everyone who supported and helped us. This is for all victims who deserve to have their court transcripts for free. ❤️

As part of #16DaysOfActivism I’m hosting a special screening of Prima Facie with the play’s producer to discuss the issues and recommendations in @RapeCrisisEandW’s new report. We’re calling for urgent reform - courts must not be places of further harm for victims. @estreetprods

[Rape Crisis England & Wales @RapeCrisisEandW]

In 2023, we published a landmark report exposing how the delays in the Crown Court were retraumatising rape and sexual abuse victims and survivors.

But this second report highlights a hard truth: the situation has not improved.

How many children have been removed from protective parents because unregulated “experts” used the pseudoscience of parental alienation and ignored evidence of abuse?

The scandal is we don’t even know.

Thanks to @Jess4Lowestoft for hosting this panel and supporting our calls.

[Jess Asato MP @Jess4Lowestoft]

I was honoured to host Survivor Family Network and @Right2Equality in a powerful meeting addressed by mothers who have had their children removed by the family courts.

There needs to be a parliamentary audit on the number of forced child removals as called for by @LDNVictimsComm
