The world is a healthier, better place because of President Carter. He had a bold vision to eradicate diseases across the globe - a goal he pursued with as much vigor from outside the Oval Office as from within.
We at Pfizer were privileged to partner with him and the @CarterCenter to tackle blinding trachoma, committing a billion doses of Zithromax to those in need. Personally, I considered President Carter a hero and was so honored when he agreed to write the forward to my book, Moonshot.
Shortly before he went into hospice, President Carter said: “The largest lesson learned from tackling these diseases is the importance of partnership and collaboration across sectors to drive global public health for all, and most important, to never give up.”
He was right. We must never give up—not until we have realized his vision for public health. Thank you, President Carter for your inspiring legacy. May you rest in peace.

In this @economistimpact piece, experts advocate for viewing adult #vaccination as an investment.
“Every £1 spent on immunisation in Gavi-supported countries saves £21 from the costs of treating illness — and yields £54 when considering the economic productivity of a healthy population” - thank you @BillGates for highlighting why vaccines have an incredible return on investment: https://t.co/6q1flTv36K

Once curable infections are now untreatable due to antimicrobial resistance.
People with HIV, TB & malaria are particularly vulnerable.
@GlobalFund invests in health systems that accurately diagnose diseases, prescribe the right antibiotics & new drugs to tackle resistant bacteria.
Defeating cancer is something we all must work together to achieve.
So today we’re announcing a comprehensive plan to eliminate cervical cancer in the Indo-Pacific, the Cancer Moonshot initiative, with our partners in the Quad.
Because in our nations, as in every part of the world - cancer casts its shadow on the lives of our citizens and our loved ones.
Australia has led the way in developing the life-saving HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, and we’re on track to eliminate it at home.
But cervical cancer continues to take the lives of too many women, with women in the Pacific dying of the disease at up to 13 times the rate of women in Australia.
It’s not good enough, and we must take action.
I thank my friends in the Quad for their partnership on this important fight.

Over 39 MILLION people will die due to antimicrobial-resistant infections over the next 25 years. “The numbers are going to inexorably rise & we are not where we need to be in tackling the problem,” Dame Sally Davies told @maeve_cullinan: https://t.co/vubaFArJZE @TelGlobalHealth

Today antiretrovirals lead to near-normal life expectancy & prevent the virus's spread.
It's estimated that antiretrovirals save over a million lives each year.
