A New Hit County Music Song powers a powerful music video!

William E. Simpson II wrote the song under this video. He cannot sing it. In 2018 he stood nine days on the Klamathon fire line as an unpaid technical advisor to CAL FIRE. The toxic smoke scarred his lungs and killed Laura, his wife of 47 years and dedicated wild horse steward. The voice you hear is an AI crutch. The words are his.
He has lived among a free-roaming herd in mountain wilderness for 12 years — the longest continuous embedded study of naturally living wild horses known.
That study is not a press release. It is day after day on the same mountain.

Here is the hard lesson the fire taught, and the one the fundraising machine does not want in front of donors:

Wild horses do not panic like barn horses. During an active catastrophic wildfire, Simpson watched them graze calmly about 200 yards from the oncoming front. He photographed it. He wrote it. That is a world-first observation from the line: a free-roaming American wild-horse herd under real fire, not a theory from a conference hotel. Those horses had already cropped the grass and brush. The fuel was lower. The fire was fightable. That is the research. That is the plan. Relocate intact family bands into the right wilderness, let them live, let them eat the fine fuels that kill forests and people. Natural. Humane. Cheaper than pens.

The grift is what happened instead.

For twenty years, big wild-horse nonprofits sold the public a product: dart the mares with PZP and the roundups will stop. Donors paid. Executives got paid. The helicopters kept flying. The holding pens stayed full. Sale authority kept moving branded horses for pocket change.

The New York Times has now put the slaughter pipeline on the front page — BLM sales more than doubled, horses leaving federal title at $25, some later on trucks toward Canadian plants. The dart did not close that gate. It never did.

When the dart failed, they did not refund the donors. They sold the next horror and asked for more money. That is not advocacy. That is a business model built on a wound that never closes.

And they work to bury the research that would make their model unnecessary. Simpson’s fire-line record, the 12-year wilderness study, the rewilding already on the ground at Wild Horse Ranch — branded horses off the Texas kill-buyer trucks, living in family bands — gets ignored, mocked, or drowned because a working, cost-negative alternative dries up the panic revenue.

The plight of the horse pays the lifestyle. A solved plight does not.

A heartbreaking investigation revealed that Trump's Bureau of Land Management is systematically rounding up thousands of America's wild horses, then quietly selling them off to buyers who are shipping them to slaughterhouses abroad.

Before, the U.S. government rarely sold wild horses. But since Trump took office, government sales have more than doubled.

Slaughterhouses pay up to $750 a wild horse, the investigation found.

The Bureau of Land Management is nominally in charge of protecting the 73,000 or so wild horses who roam America's public lands in the West. Under Trump, the Bureau is sending our wild horses to the slaughterhouse.
