@KlausVonH My players all woke up in shallow graves with an otherworldly parasite writhing in their guts. They had to figure out how they got there and who did this to them.
Because I like the regional map assets in Inkarnate better than the world ones, all three of the campaigns I run begin in the same geographical region. Then, my players have absolute freedom. The world is as big as their ambition.

Elden Ring is a fantastic example of "respect your players." The game doesn't hold your hand. It gives you the basics and sends you out into a huge world to explore and conquer, all the while making it nearly impossible to truly lose your way.
