The weirdest part of living through the #COVID19 pandemic is this strange mixture of normalcy and emergency that we’re all experiencing. I constantly feel like I’m either over- or underreacting, or really both at the exact same time. It’s surreal.
@danpfeiffer I’ve been afraid for a lot of things. But now I’m really *scared.* I have a mom who just received a kidney transplant, a dad who just donated said kidney, and a 7 month old daughter. It’s like I’d have to change her name to “The Market” for Trump to give one damn.
The President is tweeting about his approval rating and attacking the Obama Administration in the middle of a global pandemic and a plunging stock market.
This sums up the key public health point in all this: healthy younger people don’t have a ton to worry about, but we can easily be vectors that spread an infection to a vulnerable population. Wash your hands, cover your cough, and stay home!
On the one hand: conscientious and selfless health care workers, along with serious and sober public, private and civic leaders. On the other hand: an utterly selfish and irresponsible president & his feckless apologists. What a contrast between the best of America and the worst!
I did the math: a full battery of coronavirus testing costs at minimum $1,331.
I also did the legal research: the Administration has the authority to make testing free for every American TODAY.
I secured a commitment from a high-level Trump official that they’d actually do it.
Did you notice Trump calling this a “foreign virus” from the Oval? He really seems to think viruses have nationality. And he seems oblivious to the fact that the low numbers we’re seeing so far reflect grossly inadequate testing rollout. A criminally negligent level of ignorance.
.@realDonaldTrump My dad just donated a kidney to my mom. They are recovering and my mom is immunocompromised. I have a 7 month old daughter. What are you doing to keep them safe? If I changed their names to “The Market” would you care?
I don’t think I’ve ever been so angry w/him, and that’s saying something. I give 0 fucks about the market. I want assurance that testing & treatment are made available to sick people so this won’t spread to my parents who just had a kidney transplant & my 7 month old daughter.
