💔 FATAL CRASH | N4 EASTBOUND – SIMON VERMOOTEN BRIDGE
At approximately 15h25 on Tuesday, 18 August 2026, Live Traffic NPC received reports of a serious crash on the N4 Eastbound, underneath the Simon Vermooten Bridge.
Various emergency services were immediately activated, with Gauteng Traffic and Emer-G-Med among the first responders to arrive on scene.
What responders were met with was a devastating sight.
A single vehicle had crashed violently into a fixed object — a pillar supporting the bridge. The force of the impact was catastrophic, leaving the vehicle severely damaged and the occupant trapped inside.
Firefighters were forced to use the Jaws of Life to carefully cut through the wreckage and gain access to the occupant.
Paramedics assessed the patient and sadly declared them P4. Despite the efforts of the emergency crews, there was very little that could be done. The severity of the impact had left the patient critically injured.
💔 Another life lost on our roads. Another family whose lives have been changed forever.
Our deepest condolences go to the family, friends and loved ones of the deceased. We can only imagine the heartbreak that follows a phone call no family ever wants to receive.
A special word of gratitude goes to the Gauteng Traffic Accident Unit for their swift response and for helping secure the scene and prevent further secondary crashes.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to:

And thank you to the Live Traffic members who reported the crash, allowing emergency services to be activated without delay.
Tonight, somewhere, a family is grieving.
Please slow down. Stay alert. And remember — arriving safely is more important than arriving quickly.
🕯️ RIP to the deceased. May their loved ones find strength in the days ahead.
