I’m seeing lots of takes that essentially call for the policing of pen names & the showing of faces. Just a reminder that lots of people use pen names and can’t show their faces for safety reasons. This situation is beyond horrible but policing personal info is the wrong takeaway

@sharpegirl Really appreciating this thread. I use a closed pen name for my own safety and the safety of my loved ones, and it’s hard seeing people saying it shouldn’t be allowed at all!

It’s one thing to use a pen name to hide your identity & it’s another thing ENTIRELY to use a pen name to change your identity & pretend to be a race you’re not in the hopes of connecting with a group of people under false pretenses. I don’t understand the thought process at all.

I’ve been in this exact situation and it’s scary how many people in the replies have too. Just another facet of the medical world that people assume works because they’ve never experienced it.
