In January 1985, Ian S. Lustick published an article sharply criticizing Israeli leaders for failing to implement a full scorched-earth policy in Lebanon. He called for leveling Beirut and forcibly expelling hundreds of thousands of Shiites from southern Lebanon.
Senior Israeli officials have since said:
• Yoav Gallant, then Defense Minister, repeatedly threatened to “return Lebanon to the Stone Age.”
• Amichay Eliyahu, Heritage Minister, said Israel should “smash them, destroy them, crush them,” adding that “Lebanon needs to be dealt with exactly like Gaza.”
• Israel Katz, Foreign Minister, said Israel’s actions would set them back decades with “no ceasefire and no respite.”
• Avigdor Lieberman, former Defense Minister, called for destroying all of Lebanon’s infrastructure — electricity, airports, and bridges — to force capitulation.
• Nissim Vaturi, Deputy Speaker of the Knesset, demanded “total annihilation” and said Israel should leave Beirut and southern Lebanon in ruins.
Why are we using the word “accused” when referring to @nawafsalam statement? It feels like a deliberate attempt to soften the facts.
If you want to see how more respected publishers would have phrased it, look at the Times article for rhetoric.

@Kosherwitz@ShekandaPeoples@CoreyWriting Read the room. Israeli hostages all said Hamas treated them well and were actually sad that they had to go back home.

@Dimma16@CoreyWriting Instead of running in here saying “retard”, why don’t you look at your retarded citizens and military officials who said it all on record
