The focus in Myanmar must be on saving lives not taking them. Junta military attacks must stop. Obstructions to aid must be lifted. Young people should not be fearing arrest or conscription. The international community must step up with greater levels of emergency aid. Now.

We are only receiving information from other towns in the region now. Sagaing is affected very badly too but the people there do not have internet access.
Junta shut down internet access in many places in Sagaing and Mandalay regions, as the resistance is very strong there.
#MyanmarEarthquake: I will be posting updates, firsthand observations, and thoughts from within the country in this thread. The situation is terrible, with aftershocks continuing, electricity outages in impacted areas, and (almost) no free press on the ground. The majority of local journalists have been exiled following the coup in 2021. With civil war ongoing, there are real concerns about how the junta will respond.

Terrible earthquake in Burma today. People need help. Governments and agencies wishing to help the people of Burma following the earthquake must understand that there are multiple administrations in the country as people resist Burmese military occupation. Assistance should not be limited only to Burmese military occupied areas.
The majority of Burma is no longer under the control of the Burmese military. In each area freed from Burmese military occupation there are ethnic revolutionary administrations, local administrations and local civil society networks which need support to assist their populations.

More than 1,000 people are now known to have died in Myanmar’s earthquake and the search goes on. Meanwhile, the junta is reported to have continued air strikes against people’s forces even in affected areas. #WhatsHappeningInMyanmar

Amnesty International’s Montse Ferrer warned the military may block aid to resistance-held areas, saying it has politicized aid since the 2021 coup. “The military has a history of denying aid where resistance is active—we fear this will continue.”

Starvation in Gaza is a man-made phenomenon, and it can be stopped,” writes @YousefAljamal, the Gaza coordinator at the American Friends Service Committee, for @thenation
