There’s dynamics of Christian-in-bio that I’m REALLY not comfortable engaging in, but: I am Christian.
And I’m putting this in my pinned tweet bc I have a lot of conversations on here where people care about my positioning W/R/T being in the hegemonic in-group, so.
His playbook is an escalating series of anti "little d" democratic ideas but by all means, type them up like they are totes normal in a functioning democracy. Really do question the future of our nation b/c there is a generation of reporters who see this all as a big fucking game
it's interesting that this poster won't give *their* critiques of universal suffrage, but seems to want *other people* to do so.
for the record: no, I do not have any critiques of universal suffrage. A+ concept. "I wish people would vote the way I wish they voted" is an ordinary thought, but for the same reason that "I wish people liked what I liked and didn't like what I don't like" is an ordinary thought.
Every time the shadow docket has touched a contested map, the outcome favors Republicans.
Texas gerrymander: allowed.
New York Democratic flip: blocked.
Louisiana: VRA gutted.
Virginia Democratic map: refused to save it.
Alabama: a Black district erased.
Same direction every time.
And this is why buying less has to be part of the sustainability answer. People want to continue to make their current volume of purchases, just in natural fibers, and believe it’s more sustainable. There is no sustainability in overconsumption. Not even when it’s natural fibers
This is particularly awful when there really are things we have to worry about. Kansas really did invalidate IDs. Idaho really is threatening a felony charge for using the bathroom. We don't need to make things seem worse!
Human rights are for all humans. If they’re only for some people, then they’re not human rights. What Miller is essentially saying, in other words, is that he doesn’t believe in the basic concept of human rights and intends to deliberately violate them for disfavored groups.
seems to me whoever organized the last Harpers Letter should get the band back together and publish a letter denouncing the US govt disappearing college students for pure political speech. But who's to say if this is worse than Middlebury sophomores protesting Charles Murray
For those who are saying "FAFO" or "Serves Alabama right," UAB is based in Birmingham, which has a 68 percent Black population. The folks who work at places funded by the NIH are college-educated folks who more likely than not vote Democratic than Trump voters.
Brain damage does not make people into fascists.
What *does* make people into fascists is the dehumanization of groups of people, which happened in 1918 and is happening now.
Visible markers of disability (a neck brace, compression stockings, a walker, a cane) mean people look at you funny. You have to decide to not give a fuck.
The sooner you do that, the easier it becomes.
Worrying about weird reactions from ableists isn’t worth your time.
A lot of people like to reference Cheney's words. But the only way people are dishonored by history is if they are held accountable in the present. We remember segregationists like Strom Thurmond as bad but we had buildings named for Confederates. The future follows our example.
In case it’s not abundantly clear from reading the comments, when it comes to Covid and masking, there are really only two kinds of people: those who know they have skin in the game, and those who haven’t yet figured out they have skin in the game.
Of course Mace didn’t ask her. Mace is a TV hound who is expert at using whatever tool available- including bigotry - to get cameras pointed her way. She gets to repeatedly do this because the GOP gerrymandered her district, once purple-ish, into a safe red seat.
@T_Brautigan Oh no, someone on the internet who doesn’t believe people about their NORMAL anti-mask daily experiences doesn’t believe my objectively-the-weirdest-shit-anyone-has-ever-said-about-my-mask story. Whatever will I do, I could not have predicted this at all.
Literally LAST NIGHT a man told me god gave women such gorgeous, beautiful faces is so men can appreciate how well-formed they are, and masks get in the way of that
