Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and COP32 President-Designate, Gedion Timothewos, briefed African Ambassadors on the Preparations for COP32 at the 42nd Quarterly Session of the UN Economic Commission of Africa’s Briefing to African Ambassadors at the ECA Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The Ambassadors reaffirmed African support to Ethiopia’s COP32 Presidency and committed to work together with Ethiopia to ensure that COP32 achieves its Presidency’s goals and priorities.

The meeting, which was chaired by Churchill Ewumbue-Monono, Ambassador of the Republic of Cameroon to Ethiopia, who is also currently the Chair of the ECA’s Bureau of the Conference of Ministers (COM), was also addressed by Claver Gatete, Executive Secretary of the UNECA.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Gedion Timothewos today held discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu.

During the meeting, Minister Gedion noted that Ethiopia and Nigeria enjoy a longstanding bilateral relationship, with diplomatic ties dating back to the 1960s. He underscored the importance of continued coordination and consultation on issues of mutual interest to further strengthen the longstanding relations between the two countries.

For her part, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu expressed Nigeria’s strong interest in further enhancing bilateral cooperation and reaffirmed her country’s readiness to work closely with Ethiopia across a range of sectors.

On the occasion, Hana Arayasellassie, Minister of Justice of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, signed an Agreement on the Exchange or Transfer of Sentenced Persons between the two countries.

The Agreement is expected to further strengthen cooperation between the justice institutions of Ethiopia and Nigeria and provide an important legal framework for collaboration in this area.

The two sides reaffirmed their confidence that the discussions held today, together with the signing of the Agreement, will further deepen the partnership and cooperation between Ethiopia and Nigeria.

FM @GHessebon today received and held discussions with the European Union Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management, Ms. Hadja Lahbib.

On the occasion, the Minister expressed his appreciation for the support and show of solidarity of the European Union on matters of global health issues, particularly on recent cooperation in tackling the Ebola outbreak. He further noted that the support provided to Africa CDC is a key step toward jointly addressing potential global threats. He also briefed the Commissioner on peace and security issues of the Horn of Africa.

Commissioner Lahbib, on her part, reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to strengthen its partnership with Africa and to work together in addressing common health and humanitarian challenges.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programmed (UNDP), has concluded a four-day training program for diplomats focusing on international relations and geopolitical event analysis.

Such trainings provide diplomats with insights on how volatile global dynamics impact the international governance system and the balance of power among nations and regional blocs. Furthermore, it equips diplomats with the capacity to look into the positive and negative impacts of such events, conduct trend analyses, and safeguard the country's national interests.

These training sessions are an integral part of the Ministry's ongoing three-year institutional reform program, particularly the human resource development aspect which emphasizes on producing highly competent and ethically grounded diplomats to secure our national interests.

Ethiopia 🇪🇹 is building its second-largest hydroelectric dam at Koysha at a cost of $2.7 billion.

The project is progressing at speed and is set to generate 1,800–2,160 MW of electricity for the national grid, coming just after the completion of Africa’s largest hydropower project, the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).

በጋራ መድረኩ አገራችን በምትከተለው ዜጋ ተኮር ዲፕሎማሲ ማዕቀፍ ስር በመካከለኛው ምስራቅና በሁሉም ክፍለ ዓለማት የሚገኙ ዜጎቻችን በህጋዊ መንገድ የስራ ዕድል ተፈጥሮላቸው፣ ክብርና መብታቸው ተጠብቆ እራሳቸውንና አገራቸውን መጥቀም እንዲችችሉ በተቋማችን፣ በሁሉም የኢፌዲሪ ሚሲዮኖችና ቆንስላ ጄኔራል ጽ/ቤቶች እንዲሁም በኢፌዲሪ የስራና ክህሎት ሚኒስቴር የሚደረጉ ቅንጂታዊ አሰራሮችን የበለጠ አጠናክሮ ማስቀጠል እንደሚገባ የገራ መግባባት ላይ ተደርሷል።

Together with the senior leadership from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and all heads of FDRE Missions, and Consulate Generals across the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific region, we held a comprehensive review of the 9-month performance report of our citizens' overseas employment.

During our deliberations, we jointly evaluated the performance and activities carried out by our missions and consulates over the past nine months, with a particular focus on safeguarding the rights, dignity, and benefits of our citizens residing in Middle East countries.

In line with our nation’s citizen-centric diplomacy framework, a consensus was reached on the vital importance of further strengthening collaborative efforts among the Ministry, all FDRE Missions and Consulate Generals, and the FDRE Ministry of Labor and Skills to ensure our citizens in the Middle East and across the globe gain access to legal employment opportunities, maintain their dignity and rights, and effectively contribute to their own and their nation's development.

Securing water infrastructure remains a key milestone in building resilience, marked by the completion of irrigation dams under the Finna Oromia Irrigation Projects in Gomole Woreda of Borena Zone. In Dese Gora, for example, this critical infrastructure has created a massive water storage capacity of more than 190 million cubic meters, ensuring a reliable and sustainable water supply. The projects have the potential to irrigate over 14,500 hectares of agricultural land, directly supporting households, strengthening food production, and securing water resources for livestock.

We inaugurated the Borana Cultural Center today in Yabelo town. The foundation stone for the center was laid in 2020 (2013 Ethiopian Calendar) by First Lady Zinash Tayachew, and it has now officially opened for service. Built using proceeds from the sale of the book Medemer, the center sits on 57.6 hectares of land.

The center was specially designed to showcase the Gadaa system. It features a conference hall with the capacity to accommodate up to 2,000 people at a time, as well as a heritage museum and is expected to play a key role in preserving and passing on the culture, history, and philosophy of the Borana people to future generations.

The massive Borena Water Supply Project, is transforming lives across the East Borena and Borena zones by providing communities with reliable access to clean water.

Through the development of thousands of kilometers of pipelines, resilient infrastructure, advanced pumping stations, and large-scale reservoirs, we are doing more than combating drought. We are safeguarding public health, strengthening livelihoods, and unlocking agricultural potential for generations to come.
