@BrookeDobson10 Exactly, our future leaders. Also by younger students seeing the older students/their role models demonstrate this they are more likely to do it themselves.
@BrookeDobson10 Good idea! A very versatile resource that could be the focus of the day. First for discussion and innovation of ideas and later used in maths as students are familiar with it.
@BrookeDobson10 Thanks for sharing! I agree, I love how interactive and hands on some of these activities sound. I'll definitely be using these in the future.
@BrookeDobson10 As teachers it's so important to consider how we can incorporate these learning skills to benefit our students. I also used these skills when developing my unit plan.
@BrookeDobson10 This is similar to what was highlighted in the EDUC4750 lecture. What a great way to incorporate ICT while facilitating a memorable learning experience for students!
The Mess We Made is a recently published children's book (2020) that explores human impact on the ocean. It features detailed illustrations and would be a great resource for a unit of work on marine pollution. Here is a read aloud link of it. #sdg14

Assigning leadership roles like collecting fruit waste, putting bins out to collect bottles and creating labelling for bins, encourages them to get involved. Soft plastics e.g cling wrap and foil like chip packaging can be recycled @ redcycle program.

This is a great idea to assign students a particular hat in each group. In small groups students could use their learned knowledge on the topic of marine pollution to address all hats and present to the class what they learned during the unit of work. #SDG14
The Six Thinking Hats is a great pedagogical tool I will implement to optimise the learning outcomes in my uow. e.g. Students could use the green hat to research solutions for #plasticpollution while the black hat investigates the difficulties behind this solution. #Educ4750
I'm sure the students loved this! Alternatively, students could march with their posters at a school assembly and share some facts about what they learnt during the unit of work. #Educ4750#sdg14
This image provides great perspective for students on how long plastic takes to decompose. This could be integrated into a maths lesson by asking students to use the information to create a column graph displaying the length of time plastic takes to decompose in descending order.
Could teachers encourage this amongst students by providing tickets for students with plastic free lunches to go into the draw for a prize. I know a school that does this but for students arriving on time/ready to learn. The prize being a pencil pack or computer time. #sdg14
Great idea! Students could also work together to devise how the school can reduce their use of plastic and solutions to replace any items. Perhaps in the canteen, library or classrooms. They could even share tips in the school newsletter for reducing plastic in student lunchboxes.
The Clean Seas Campaign focuses on phasing out all single-use plastic in City-managed activities and events.
In my unit of work, students will be supporting this organisation through developing #plastic clean up solutions for their local beach. #Educ4750

You can now purchase whiteboard marker refill stations. This allows you to reuse your markers as they can be refilled several times. What a great way to reduce our plastic waste contribution in the classroom and model this for students. #Educ4750#sdg14
I agree! Visual images and excursions create a more impactful experience for students and a lesson they are more likely to remember if they can see relevance to themselves and their community. River, lake or beach excursions depending on location will create a lasting impact.
I think #visual content like this video here is crucial when teaching + learning about #SDG14. To see the extent of #plasticpollution brings a sense of motivation to make change! @sdg14net The link below includes recent pollution news... #educ4750

Thanks for sharing this Brooke. This provides a great overview of what should be included when educating students on #sdg14. I think many students would love to get involved with the workshop shared in this as well!
