Afternoon Doggers!
Todays Little Dead Doggy Legend is Air Buddy from the original movie in the pretty terrible film series Air Bud - where famously a dog is allowed to lead a team to victory in a basketball competition.
Buddy was a Golden Retriever born March 23rd 1988 and passed away on February 10th 1998 at the age 9 (ruff-ly 49 in dog years).
Buddy was replaced for future instalments in the series - a move which reportedly sent him down a spiral of depression which manifested itself with large bouts of lazing/sleeping in his owners bed and if rumours are to be believed, a debilitating snack addiction.
Six months before his death in 1997, Buddy sadly had his right hind leg amputated due to synovial cell sarcoma, a form of cancer that manifests near the joints. His nearest and dearest say that Buddy was still able to play basketball but it is unknown if this was limited to dribbling - it is unlikely that he ever dunked again.
Buddy was an absolute doggy playa and before his death had sired 9 puppies.
Bonus Facts: Buddy was born in the same year I was, only 15 days later. At the time of his death in 1998 my parents had finally separated after years of mutual unhappiness. Happy days!
RIP Buddy!

Good Afternoon Doggers!
Today's Little Dead Doggy Legend is not one dog but an entire troupe - the dogs who played Marley in Marley & Me.
Marley & Me (the film) is based on Marley & Me: Life and Love with the World's Worst Dog (the book) by John Grogan.
As the film covers 14 years of doggy life the production used 22 different Yellow Labradors.
Statistically as the film was released in 2008, therefore filmed in 2006/2007, all 22 Yellow Labs are likely to be fully DEAD.
However, the dog with the most featured screen time as Marley was called Clyde.
During the filming of Marley & Me, the human actors Jennifer Aniston and Owen Wilson would have meat flavoured baby food smeared on their faces for scenes which required Marley (the dog) to lick them. This is reminiscent of our old friend Moose from the hit sitcom Frasier who would lick fish oil and liver pâté off of Kelsey Grammers chops.
Clyde was said to be a fickle beast, not really preferring Owen over Jen-Jen or Jen-Jen over Owen - he only preferred who was holding the treats.
Clyde was a raving scientologist. After filming concluded he labelled Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston as Suppressive Persons after they rebuffed Clyde's advances at recruiting them into the church.
The real Marley died in December 2003 in circumstances described as 'not suspicious'.
Marley & Me (the film) was later followed up by Marley & Me: The Puppy Years but this was widely regarded as terrible and was ignored by everybody.
Bonus facts: The day that the real Marley died - December 29th 2003 - saw the famous British comedian Bob Monkhouse also die. The number one song at the time in the U.S was Hey Ya by Outkast whilst in the U.K it was Mad World by Michael Andrews Ft. Gary Jules. And I'm still bitter that Mad World pipped The Darkness - Christmas Time (Don't Let The Bells End) to the number 1 spot.
RIP Marley, Clyde and the other 21 dogs who portrayed Marley (also probably dead).

It's really hard working a full time job and being an illustrator at the same time. I'm drawing a little bit every day, as my practice has slipped recently and I'm trying to be kinder to myself...but it's so hard and I'm so tired.
