The 9-5 was seemingly designed to keep you poor, dumb, and unhealthy. Because of how many hours there are in a day, and because of how much time it takes to cook, clean, and read, it seems almost impossible to get in shape, start a business, and learn about life without being unemployed. But we need at least a little bit of money to do anything. So, what can we do?

It’s true that the system is rigged against us. It’s designed to suck our time. But it only seems impossible to overcome. I’ve watched many friends prove this by accomplishing their dreams against all odds. I’ve even watched them win, lose, start over, and win again. You really can do whatever you want in this life as long as you don’t take your time here for granted. Once you realize it’s all fleeting, you are free.

If we are just going to die someday, why should we fear failure or falling down? We all arrive at the same place regardless. And these experiences are what make our lives full. Truly, we need them to become whole. Just because we can do whatever we dream doesn’t mean we should though. There is absolutely no shame in the humble path. Ultimately, it is the most blessed. In fact, it is more peaceful.

But sometimes we need to experiment with reality before deeply understanding this simple conclusion. Some of us cannot be content until we know things for ourselves, and not just through a word of advice. We cannot internalize it until we’ve lived it. That’s okay! That’s normal. The point is, the world isn’t so bad. It might not seem like it, but the possibilities are actually endless. And even if you aren’t living them, you are still in an infinite position.

You are free to start over or stay where you are, like the hermit who climbs his mountains within. It turns out, these internal mountains are much harder to climb. They are much bigger than our ambitions. And really, our ambitions are just distractions from them. Even if our ambitions are exhausted, they remain untouched. The human heart is an unsearchable mystery. We must find what makes it move. For some, it’s exploring our own potential. For others, it’s humble simplicity. Either way, we arrive at the same place.
