Police arrested your friend. Here is what you should NEVER say or do at the station.

Before you rush to the police station to “explain”Stop.

Many Nigerians unknowingly make the situation worse because they panic.

Your friend has been arrested.

Now you’re about to make mistakes that could put both of you in trouble.

Here are 5 things you should NEVER say or do at the station.

1. Never resist or fight the police.

No matter how angry you are, don’t obstruct the officers or attempt to forcefully free your friend.

If the arrest was unlawful, there are legal remedies.

Creating another offence won’t help anyone.

2. Never lie to protect your friend.

Don’t invent stories.

Don’t provide a false alibi.

Don’t hide evidence.

Trying to cover up a crime can expose you to criminal liability.

Tell the truth or it’s best you remain silent cause you have a right to.

3. Never sign any statement you haven’t read. (Most important)

If the police ask you to make a statement, read every line carefully before signing.

If something is incorrect, insist that it be corrected.

Your signature means you agree with what is written.

4. Never offer money to “settle the matter.���

If an officer demands money before performing their official duty, don’t panic and don’t negotiate.

Politely ask for the officer’s name and rank.

Bribery creates a new legal problem and may weaken your position later.

5. Never allow your friend to be questioned in secret without asking for legal representation where appropriate.

If your friend is a suspect, they have the right to remain silent and to consult a lawyer before making a statement.

A rushed confession has caused many people years of regret.

Under the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA) 2015 (and similar state laws), a suspect has important rights, including the right to:

* know the reason for the arrest,
* remain silent,
* consult a legal practitioner,
* and avoid being subjected to torture or inhuman treatment.

These are legal rights and not mere favours.

One mistake I see people make is believing that the loudest person at the police station wins.

They don’t.

The person who knows their rights usually has the advantage.

Remember…

Don’t let panic make you say or do something you’ll spend years trying to explain.

Sometimes, the smartest thing you can say at a police station is:

“Officer, I’d like to understand the allegation first.”

Meet Bashir Umar of the Nigerian Air Force, from Adamawa State, gave Nigeria a powerful lesson in honesty and patriotism.

On 7 July 2019, while on duty at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano, he discovered €37,000 (approximately ₦66 million at today's exchange rate) that had been misplaced. Instead of giving in to temptation, he did what few would have the courage to do, he ensured that every euro was returned to its rightful owner.

His remarkable act proved that true integrity is not measured by what a person says, but by the choices they make when no one is watching.

To Bashir Umar, thank you for upholding the noble values of the Nigerian Air Force and bringing honour to the military profession. Your honesty, discipline, and selfless example continue to inspire millions of Nigerians.

Many false ministers are now paying bloggers to monitor the messages of faithful Preachers, looking for a statement they can isolate, misrepresent, and use to discredit Them.

Be careful.

Don’t build your messages around your experiences.

Your dreams, visions, encounters, and testimonies may encourage people, but they must never replace what the Bible clearly teaches.

One of the reasons some ministers are being labeled false teachers today is that they spend more time explaining their experiences than explaining the Scriptures.

Let your experiences remain illustrations.
Let the Bible remain your message.

We do not have many faithful Bible teachers. Please don’t hand critics unnecessary ammunition by making your personal experiences the center of your preaching.

Explain the text.

Preach the text.

When people leave your meeting, let them remember the Scriptures not your stories.
