The designation of #TrendeAragua—a criminal gang originally based in #Venezuela—as a terrorist organization was leveraged to justify President Trump’s invocation of the Alien Enemies Act. This resulted in questionable and arbitrary deportations of Venezuelan migrants to #CECOT in #ElSalvador without due process, an action that credible international human rights organizations have described as a form of cross-border enforced disappearance.

The Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) has raised concerns and called for remedies through Habeas Corpus for each case of detention, with ongoing litigation involving @ACLU representing the victims. Additionally, SCOTUS ordered the government to facilitate the return of #KilmarAbregoGarcia, a Salvadoran migrant detainee who had been removed to CECOT.

The extent and implications of Tren de Aragua's presence in the U.S. have faced challenges from the intelligence community, as reported by @nytimes.

As a U.S. citizen born in Venezuela, I find it appropriate to demand moderation from @SecRubio and @StateDept regarding the issue of Esequibo.

The rights of Venezuela and Guyana over #Esequibo should not be analyzed through the lens of Maduro's continued hold on power, despite the electoral fraud of July 28, 2024.

Both Venezuela and Guyana have the right and obligation, in accordance with the Geneva Agreement of 1966, to resolve this territorial dispute through a peaceful method acceptable to both parties within the framework of international law, including UN mediation. It is indisputable that both parties recognized the nullity of the Arbitral Award of 1899, a process that was clearly corrupted by the United Kingdom at that time. In fact, the Geneva Agreement of 1966 had the backing of the entire international community, including U.S. diplomacy.

Furthermore, if one considers that the historical presence of Guyanese settlers in Esequibo grants territorial rights to #Guyana, it is important to note that the territorial borders of #Venezuela and Guyana project rights over maritime areas that need to be delimited. Therefore, it is unwise to encourage any form of economic exploitation or military maneuvers until this situation is resolved.

In my opinion, the most constructive position that U.S. diplomacy can adopt is to urge both parties to respect the Geneva Agreement of 1966 and commit to resolving the dispute in accordance with that agreement, refraining from carrying out economic or military operations in maritime areas yet to be delimited.

I don’t believe that the democratic alternative to Nicolás Maduro's regime will view this biased and provocative position from Secretary Marco Rubio favorably. If a political change were to occur in Venezuela in the near future, it would not be acceptable for any consequences to arise detrimental to the rights that would assist Venezuela under the application of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
