Countdown to launch!

Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General Dr Ahmed Idris and the CEO of the IFRC, Jagan Chapagain, visited the SHA’s state of the art National Ambulance Dispatch Centre on Monday, accompanied by the Authority’s Director of Corporate Services.

Met International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Secretary-General Jagan Chapagain at State House Nairobi. Thanked the organisation for continued humanitarian interventions in Kenya and across the region.

Assured Mr Chapagain of Kenya’s commitment to continue working with the Red Cross to strengthen the response to emergencies across our region.

I also briefed him on Kenya’s transformation agenda, especially in water harvesting, water storage and irrigation, through the National Infrastructure Fund. This will boost production and strengthen our country's food security.

In Nairobi today, I was honoured to welcome His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho, alongside colleagues from the @IFRC and the @KenyaRedCross.

More than 307 million people across Africa experienced hunger in 2024. Together, we must move beyond managing crises and invest in durable, locally led solutions.

Through the Food Security Resilience Platform and the IFRC Pan-African Zero Hunger Initiative, we aim to help 60 million people become more resilient and food secure by 2030.

Together with His Majesty, we are committed to championing African-led solutions.

The @IFRC Secretary General, @Jagan_Chapagain, Kenya Red Cross Secretary General Dr. @IrshadIdris, the Vice President of the Djibouti Red Crescent Mahdi Mohammed and senior officials from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and the Kenya Red Cross paid a courtesy call on H.E. President William Ruto following the visit of His Majesty King Letsie III of Lesotho to Kenya.

The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the role of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement in supporting humanitarian action in Kenya and around the world.

Discussions focused on strengthening collaboration between humanitarian actors and governments to enhance emergency preparedness and response, build community resilience, and address emerging humanitarian challenges.

Inspected the National Ambulance Dispatch Centre at the Social Health Authority (SHA) Headquarters in Nairobi to assess its operational readiness ahead of its official launch later this month.

Now over 90% complete, the Centre marks a significant step in strengthening our emergency medical services under the Taifa Care Model and the Government's Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.

Dubbed the SHA 112 Lifeline, the Centre will provide a fully coordinated 24-hour emergency medical dispatch service through a single national response platform.

So far, 97 KMPDC-accredited ambulances have been empanelled into the system, with 186 already registered and more expected to join as coverage expands nationwide.

The Centre is equipped with advanced digital systems that support emergency call triage, ambulance dispatch, real-time incident management and seamless coordination with health facilities through the National Health Information Exchange.

A team of 40 dispatch personnel, including medical officers, doctors and customer care agents, has also undergone specialized training to ensure efficient, professional and patient-centred emergency response.

Once operational, the National Ambulance Dispatch Centre will enhance response times, improve coordination of emergency services and connect patients to the nearest appropriate health facilities, ensuring timely access to lifesaving care for all Kenyans.

I was joined by Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr Ouma Oluga, Digital Health Agency(DHA) CEO Eng. Anthony Lenayara at a brief event hosted by the Social Health Authority (SHA) CEO, Dr. Mercy Mwangangi.
