This is an excellent question with a very sad answer: profits—our leaders are driven by them.
The good news about our system is that systems are made of people, and if we continue to press people and educate folks, we can make change.
We have actual issues in this country that politicians need to address, like healthcare, the cost of living, wars + more.
Instead of taking on the issues, politicians rather play TMZ wars while Americans continue to suffer.
I always think how people reacted to the Russian-Ukrainian conflict.
There was a global boycott to Russia.
The world used to cherish the fact the Ukraine was defending its country.
Yet, Palestinian defending their land resisting occupation are labeled as terrorists.
Protesters in Seattle, WA shut down the Sound Transits U District Station for hours. Activists targeted Sound Transits for its contract with Siemens, a company empowering Israeli occupation.
if the white people fight back it’s empowering but when palestinians fight back against colonialism and violent occupation they’re terrorists and we’re told we should condemn them

One of the things that I hope has become clear to everyone in the last few months is how exaggerated and untenable the myth of “rational debate” has always been. People aren’t moved by good arguments. They don’t care about evidence. Ideology is too powerful to be shaken by facts.
It’s not surprising that the politicians who refuse to guarantee healthcare to everyone here in America don’t care about the lives of Palestinians.
It’s a moral decay.
