My official stance on XC tie breakers:
If the top-5 runners from each team couldn't decide who was the better team, then I don't see why scoring the same top-5 but in a different way makes much sense
The 6th runner shows who has more depth and makes the full team matter more
The frustrating/cool part of running is that it can't be rushed.
Your body can't absorb more stress than is reasonable. You usually can't handle "too much, too soon, too fast." There is no shortcut.
Becoming a good runner is a test of patience, one training session at a time.
For coaches that have coached over a decade:
Has your approach to training and racing changed? If so, how? Your experience could be a short-cut for a fellow coach just starting out in the game!
🟢Personally, I mix workout intensities more and almost never talk about splits when it comes to racing. I used to be polar opposite in both areas.
@CoachDistance - Volumes drifted higher (Mileage and workouts)
- More mixed paces
- Fast workouts are tempered with LT
- Workouts are easier -- No longer maximize every session and just want a solid win even on a bad day
- Smaller mileage jumps but more consistently throughout the year
Breaking the mold without breaking the progression
How do you go off script in training and still keep things headed in the right direction?

There are very few "great workouts" when looked at in isolation
A great workout in the wrong place or with the wrong progression surrounding it can cause just as many problems as a "bad workout" on its own
