Yesterday, I led the IEK Council on a courtesy call to KenGen PLC Headquarters at Stima Plaza, where we were received by Ag. Managing Director Eng. Julius Odumbe, CE, FIEK, and Eng. Monicah Wairimu Karanja.
Our discussions focused on strengthening IEK–KenGen collaboration across key areas:
1. 33rd IEK Convention – participation, technical engagement, sponsorship and knowledge sharing.
2. Women in Engineering – enhanced support and collaboration on programmes that increase the participation and visibility of women engineers.
3. Geothermal & Wind Energy – knowledge sharing, technology transfer and opportunities to advance Kenyan engineering expertise regionally.
4.Mentorship & Student Attachments – expanding opportunities for students and young engineers to gain practical industry experience.
5.Research, Innovation & Professional Development – strengthening opportunities for engineers to develop and apply new technologies and solutions.
6.Academia–Industry Collaboration – stronger partnerships between universities and industry, including support for equipment and facilities.
7.Knowledge Sharing & Publications – deeper collaboration through professional communication and knowledge-sharing platforms.
8. Engineering Projects & Opportunities – increasing participation of Kenyan engineering firms, contractors and consultants in engineering-related projects.
9. Power Reliability – continued engineering collaboration in strengthening the reliability of Kenya’s electricity supply.
10.Knowledge Retention – creating opportunities for experienced and retired engineers to continue contributing while transferring knowledge to younger professionals.
11. Professional Registration & Career Progression – making the transition of young engineers into professional practice more seamless through stronger training and registration linkages.
The discussions reaffirmed the importance of strong industry–profession partnerships in building Kenya’s engineering capacity.
We look forward to turning these conversations into practical partnerships and programmes that create opportunities for engineers and contribute to Kenya’s sustainable infrastructure, energy and technological development.

The delegation was received by Eng. Julius Odumbe, General Manager, Operations, Kengen.
The discussions focused on opportunities in research and innovation, professional development, mentorship, student attachments, industry–academia collaboration, renewable energy, knowledge transfer and industrial visits, among other areas.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared commitment to advancing engineering excellence and strengthening Kenya’s engineering ecosystem.

Yesterday, I joined Eng. Dalmas Mbai, CEO of Safer Power Group, at Sapphire Business Park, Mlolongo, to celebrate a decade of enterprise and innovation.
The launch of their 100% green-powered manufacturing facility and Green Hydrogen Proof of Concept marks an important step towards sustainable industrialisation and clean energy in Kenya.
