John Agard says, on writing ‘Checking Out Me History’ : “The I isn’t necessarily me… Poetry should tease the mind and get them to reflect without telling people what to think
… audiences like to be teased and challenged… you can touch a heart with that type of poetry”
Agard is asked about how poetry has changed since the 80s. He talks about spoken word events, how poetry has become a “good night out” rather than shared from behind a lectern- a positive change.
We have arrived at the pump rooms in Stroud for a praise trip for Y10 and Y11 students - the incredible John Agard performing and discussing his poetry. @ChurchdownSch
Amy said “Everyone in the play is guilty of something even if it wasn’t the murder of Megan; they all commit crimes - legal and illegal - that shifts us towards believing they’re guilty of the crime when in reality they’re guilty of something else.”@theBarnTheatre
Ruby said “I find it interesting how Rachel, the main character, had such a fascination with crime and what was happening. It’s similar to our own obsessions with what is happening around true crime and finding out if justice can be achieved”
Hannah said “having read the book, I found the differences with the production interesting. Some characters had more focus and a bigger role than in the novel, such as some of the suspects”
