We’ve had a lovely evening welcoming prospective learners into the department to showcase the fabulous activities that take place within English 📚We can’t wait to see some of the enthusiastic learners we met tonight when they join Upton next year as our new Year 7s! @UptonVoice
Our Writers' Workshop is back for a third year running and it's even bigger and better than before! Now open to learners in both KS3 and KS4, it's a fantastic way for our future Poet Laureates and novelists to hone their skills and learn new tips ✍️📚

This week Upton won the district heats of the Rotary Club Youth Speaks debate competition! Well done to Jasmine, Nikodem and Samuel for presenting, and everyone including Joshua, Aleksander, Adam, Lillie-Jo, Farden, Leo, Murtaza, Vasil, Dylan and Elliot for preparing for victory!
Mr Whelan’s 10YEnE have produced some outstanding work illustrating the purpose and lessons of the key characters in Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. What a fabulous revision resource!
The theme of this year’s Black History Month is ‘Saluting our Sisters.’ Here are some fantastic black female authors to read in celebration ✊🏿✊🏽✊🏻✊ @UptonVoice
Yesterday was National Poetry Day. Here at @UptonVoice KS3 celebrated by exploring, writing and performing some spoken word poems. There was some truly fantastic creativity on show 👏👏👏
Another successful open evening in the English department last week. Looking forward to seeing some of the enthusiastic faces we met on Thursday around Upton next year!
Good luck Y11! Whatever happens after today's exam, it has been our pleasure to teach you these past 5 years!
Although 'the end is here... when there was doubt, you've ate it up and spat it out. You've faced it all and stood tall and done it your way!'
Carpe Diem!
@UptonVoice
Good luck to all of our Year 11 learners who are sitting their English Language Paper 1 this morning.
This exam is a culmination of all the analytical and creative writing that you have done since Year 7 - believe in yourselves; you've got this!
@UptonVoice
@ScousEmma@SupportUpton@UptonVoice Trying to weave as many (only slightly tweaked) quotes into 280 characters is surprisingly challenging! But the point remains - we couldn't be prouder of our Year 11s and know that they'll absolutely smash it tomorrow 😊
Good luck Y11 as you embark at sunrise to sit your second Lit exam. You are prepared. You are the famous younger generation, who, like bees in a hive, have worked hard these past years. It's time to carve out your own identity, look on your works and (not) despair!💪
@UptonVoice
@dailysmales @UptonVoice@LeeCummins2@chestermarathon Brilliant effort as always! Seeing our learners before and after these events is always such a pleasure 😊
Y11, the time before you is your own - be brave (in ribbons) as you approach the exam knowing that you've forged your knowledge link by link and yard by yard. Make today's exam (and not mankind) your business and say 'Bah Humbug' to any doubts. Best of luck, everyone!
@UptonVoice
Good luck to our Y11 learners who are sitting their English Lit exam tomorrow (and tomorrow and tomorrow). Screw your courage to the sticking place for what's done cannot be undone. You've filled yourselves from crown to toe top-full of knowledge. You've got this! 💪
@UptonVoice
Topics they chose to explore included tackling misogyny and combatting climate change! 💪
Well done to all involved: Annabelle, Elleanor, Etty, Isla, Joel, Laila, Isabella, Dunmininu, Nadia, Sherine, Joanne, Hailey and Aleksander!

Published Poets! 📖
Several members from our Young Writers Club recently had their poetry selected for the North West edition of 'The Power of Poetry'. They were asked to use poetry to express their thoughts and opinions on topics they were passionate about.
