In Ilorin today, young people are walking into the National Youth Dialogue on Just Transition, ready to talk about what Nigeria's shift to a greener economy actually means for them. Who gains from it? What happens to people's livelihoods? And whose voices are still being left out?

That's the conversation under way, held under the theme "Advancing Climate Justice through Inclusive Youth Leadership in Nigeria." The starting point is what communities are living through, and the push is for young people to help shape the policies they'll be living with long after today.

Osun votes on 15 August. For women in and around that election, the campaign has brought threats, harassment, and images and videos manufactured or circulated to humiliate them. Some of it happens on a phone screen. Some of it happens in a market. It works the same way either time, which is to make being visible in public life cost more than most women can afford to pay.

That cost falls on women who are candidates, party organisers, journalists, poll officials and voters. When they withdraw, an election gets decided without them.

So we're grateful to Urgent Action Fund-Africa for backing our work to protect women taking part in this election, running from August to October 2026.

We'll be offering direct support to women affected, working with women's networks, legal partners and journalists across the state, and pressing the institutions with the power to act to treat these attacks as electoral harms rather than the ordinary rough and tumble of politics.

We'll share more as the work gets going.

Traditional and religious leaders are custodians of norms in our communities and they play key roles in what a community accepts or rejects. This is why we must continue to engage these leaders to bring down the barriers that prevent girls education.

To achieve this, we are pleased to have received a three-year grant from Malala Fund to work on girls' secondary education in Kaduna State, running from 2026 to 2029 across all three senatorial zones.

Nigeria's Child Rights Act already protects a girl's right to stay in school. In practice, married girls, pregnant girls and young mothers often don't return. There's no state protocol telling head teachers what to do, no budget line funding re-entry, and no public record of what the government has committed to.

Over the next three years we'll be working with traditional and religious leaders across Kaduna to change that. They'll make the case for girls' education in their own communities and in their own words, backed by ward-level evidence on who is out of school and why.

That evidence goes to the state education board, the Ministry of Education and the House of Assembly, and we'll publish an annual scorecard on what they do with it. Alongside the policy work, we'll support girls directly to get back into school and stay there through to senior secondary.

Nigeria keeps saying it doesn’t have enough doctors.

We have only about 50,000 doctors serving over 200 million people. That's 1 Doctor to over 4,000 patients.

You'd expect every doctor willing to serve to be encouraged.

Instead, one is detained after carrying out a menstrual hygiene outreach in Kaduna State.

Another 238 young doctors who returned home to practise wake up to an unexplained increase in their induction fees from ₦265,000 to over ₦415,000.

We cannot keep discouraging the very people we desperately need.

I respectfully appeal to the @KadunaMOH, @GovKaduna, @WHONigeria, @NGRSenate, @NGRPresident, and @Fmohnigeria to ensure Dr Al-Amin regains his freedom, and to the @MDCNOfficial to review this new fee.

More than 30 Mass Communication students at Kwara State Polytechnic spent an afternoon learning to verify what they see online before trusting it.

These are the people who'll be staffing Nigerian newsrooms in a few years, deciding what gets published and shared. BBYDI ran the session with the polytechnic's Mass Communication department, and it focused on one of the parts of AI that will shape their work, spotting misinformation and deepfakes.

BBYDI facilitator, Hanifat Balogun, ran MyAIFactChecker, our WhatsApp fact-checking tool, live in the room against a real piece of misinformation. More than twenty students saved it to their contacts before they left.

They also worked through ways to trace where an image or video really came from, such as reverse-image search with TinEye and Google Lens, InVID for video, and basic URL check.

They learned to prompt well, too, using the CLEAR format: Context, Language, Expectation, Audience, Response. It's the difference between a prompt that works and one that wastes time.

Call for Bids: Pre-Election Digital Threat Assessment

Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), with @FactC_Africa, is seeking a research consultant to lead a Pre-Election Digital Threat Assessment within the Strengthening Digital Integrity and Inclusive Participation for Nigeria 2027 project, supported by @DigitalDemoProj and @CIVICUSalliance.

The consultant will map AI-driven disinformation hotspots, identify emerging deepfake narratives targeting marginalised communities, and produce the report Prevalent Misinformation Patterns & Digital Hotspots in Nigeria 2027. The findings will directly inform the consortium's prebunking strategy and resource allocation ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

We are looking for an advanced degree and at least five years' experience in disinformation research, election monitoring, OSINT, or political communication, strong knowledge of Nigeria's political and information environment, and familiarity with Social Network Analysis tools such as Gephi or NetworkX. An understanding of how AI-driven disinformation intersects with gender, disability, language, and rural exclusion in Nigeria is essential.

This is a lean assignment of 12 working days, running from 20 July to 7 August 2026. The role is fully remote, with Nigerian-based applicants strongly preferred.

Our first speaker, Imatabahi Etuk, founder of The Mannaja Way, has taken the stage and is already dropping powerful insights on branding, storytelling, and the role of technology in shaping modern businesses.

She reminded participants that strong brands are built on clarity, meaning, and intentional storytelling because people can copy ideas, but they cannot copy your experience or the story behind your brand.

One powerful point she emphasised: first impressions are never neutral, and businesses must be intentional about how they show up and communicate.

She also reiterated that the notion that AI is not meant for small businesses is a lie. AI is meant for all businesses. When used intentionally, it can amplify your brand, sharpen your message, and even save valuable time.

The conversations have just begun, and the room is already buzzing with ideas.

Please read and digest this thread; it will be helpful to you as a Muslim so that you won't "sleep on the bicycle."

I just want to inform you that Laylatul-Qadr can fall not only on odd nights but that, most of the time, it actually falls on even nights.

Let's begin by citing the hadiths that establish the significance of this blessed night for Muslims. There are about ten hadiths that I can recall regarding Laylatul-Qadr. The majority state that the Night of Majesty should be sought in the last ten days of Ramadan.

On the authority of Aisha:

كان رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يجاور في العشر الأواخر من رمضان، ويقول: تحروا ليلة القدر في العشر الأواخر من رمضان،

The Messenger of Allah used to observe i'tikaf in the last ten days of Ramadan and would say: "Seek Laylatul-Qadr in the last ten nights of Ramadan."

On the authority of Abu Hurairah:

أريت ليلة القدر، ثم أيقظني بعض أهلي فنسيتها، فالتمسوها في العشر الغوابر

"I was shown Laylatul-Qadr, then one of my family members woke me up, and I forgot it. So, seek it in the last remaining ten nights."

Let’s suffice ourselves with these two hadiths for now.

The reason we were commanded to search for this night is due to a dispute that occurred between two men, causing them to raise their voices in the presence of the Prophet. This is evident in another hadith narrated by Ubadah ibn Samit.

خرج النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم ليخبرنا بليلة القدر، فتهاحى رجلان من المسلمين، فقال: خرجت لأخبركم بليلة القدر، فتهاحى فلان وفلان؛ فرفعت

"The Prophet came out to inform us about Laylatul-Qadr, but two men from among the Muslims were quarreling. So he said: 'I came out to inform you about Laylatul-Qadr, but so-and-so and so-and-so disputed, and it was lifted.'"

For students of Arabic language, the verb used for "Quarreling" in this Hadith was derived from the Arabic word for "beards" which could be translated that the two men were dragging their beards—according the explanation of some scholars.

Since we are to seek Laylatul-Qadr within the last ten days, particularly on odd nights, it is necessary to consider the total number of days in Ramadan.

If Ramadan is 29 days, then the last ten days will begin on the 19th night.

If Ramadan is 30 days, then the last ten days will begin on the 20th night.

Many Muslims focus solely on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, and 29th nights for increased acts of worship. However, if Ramadan happens to be 29 days, this approach may lead to missing Laylatul-Qadr altogether.

Additionally, in a hadith reported by Ubadah and some other companions, the Prophet said:

فالتمسوها في التاسعة والسابعة والخامسة

"Seek it on the 9th, 7th, and 5th (of the last ten nights)."

This hadith instructs us to seek Laylatul-Qadr on the 9th, 7th, and 5th of the last ten days. There is no specific hadith that explicitly states it falls on the 21st, 23rd, 27th etc.

By calculation:

If Ramadan is 29 days and we start counting the last ten days from the 20th night, then:

The 22nd night will be the 3rd night of the last ten days.

The 24th night will be the 5th.

The 26th night will be the 7th.

Looking at it from this angle, the laylatul-Qadr will fall on an even night in the month of Ramadan.

Many people have spent years unaware of this due to the widespread misconception that Laylatul-Qadr only falls on the 21st, 23rd, or 27th nights.

Another intriguing point is that the majority of Ramadans we observe are 29-day months. In fact, the standard lunar calendar follows this, while having a 30-day Ramadan is the exception.

So, do not be selective about which nights you dedicate to worship during the last ten days. This might be your last Ramadan, and it might be mine too.

1. Bandits invaded Digare community, Bauchi State.

2. Bandits ambushed travelling passengers in Kogi State, while shooting the driver.

3. Bandits tortured a captured NYSC member.

4. Bandits invaded and abducted many people in Kogi State near Government Technical College.

-Bauchi is a Muslim State, Kogi is partly a Muslim state, and the corper being tortured pleaded in the name of Allah, (For the sake of Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W), please help me. Please help my life).

Again, this is the holy month of Ramadan; Now tell the public why bandits will be attacking and torturing people at this time, since a lot of you want to link the insecurity crisis to just Islam, instead of just addressing them terrorists that are affecting us all. Kindly explain.
