Watching the Dáil debate on Ireland's asylum system live, and almost every TD has said "We need immigration - sure, our health service is supported by foreign nurses and doctors!"

This is an absolute non-sequitur and has nothing to do with the asylum system. I have never heard anyone object to a nurse or a doctor legally travelling to Ireland on a work visa to work in a hospital.

What people do object to is large numbers of males from safe countries destroying their passport mid-flight so they can falsely claim asylum and avail of various benefits.

The fact that politicians continually conflate these two things is bordering on, if I can borrow a phrase, "disinformation."
