For the first time, the B.C. government has released the vaccination status AND ages of people currently in ICU due to #COVID19
84% of cases are in people unvaccinated, and none of the cases are in fully vaccinated people under 40.
@paramedicbart@timelord49@jarmstrongbc@GlobalBC@BC_EHS GVRD FDs did their best to bailout @BCEHS during the heatwave. They don't normally respond to low-acuity calls, but triaged & helped where possible. @VanFireRescue & others should be lauded--they maintained fire suppression response (for which they are AHJs) while helping out. ๐
My fave:
20ish YOM. 4 stabs to cardiac box.
Rapidest transport to trauma centre. Arrested enrouteโCPR (I know: no fluid to pump, no real point) in transit.
Resuscitative thoracotomy immediately on arrival. RV hole. Occlusion c Foley. ROSC.
Extubated next day. DC c 0 sequelae
@paulharris53@APBC873@BC_EHS 'Foxtrot' shifts (an hourly stipend set @ BC min wage + full rate of pay when responding to calls) will be eliminated in March 2022 per the latest collective agreement.
Hopefully this will mean more full-time work for BC's rural/remote paramedics & better coverage for citizens.
@paulharris53@APBC873 2. Moreover, the call volumes for medics are far higher. In 2013, StatsCan reports there were 6676 fire events in BC. (https://t.co/XGMGR7VvaZ) In the same period, BC medics responded to 413,123 pre-hospital emergencies. In 2016, BCAS responded to 6166 cardiac arrests alone!
@richardzussman@CDCofBC Surprising that paramedics aren't being prioritized with front-line healthcare (eg ED nurses)
As @BC_EHS Critical Care Paramedic, I'm tasked with moving ventilated COVID+ patient's from outlying hospitals to ICU/COVID wards. Yet we're prioritized with grocery workers...
Yo @BC_EHS:1st step to fixing a problem is acknowledging it's a problem
Geographically, PT medics serve major. of BC. PTers have no min pay: just call-out pay/stipends. In xchange they have no obligation to work. This leads to ++service gaps
Don't spin it: We (@APBC873) need ฮ!
BCEHS Major Incident Rapid Response Team was deployed to Fort St. James today to help support local #paramedics and #patients in the community. This specialized team was developed as part of our #COVID19BC pandemic response efforts. #PatientCare
I'm extraordinarily disappointed in the recent one-sided @APBC873 communique calling recent "negativity" around institutional bias in Canadian policing an "emotional response" not based on fact.
I've attached my response as an open letter. #SilenceIsViolence โฅ๏ธ ๐
In the military, parachute riggers have to jump with chutes they have packed. I think everyone who writes the IPC rules should have to spend a shift in "hot" environments.
Thanks to hard work, a bit of luck, lots of individual sacrifice (by everyone), an established public health program, a strong publicly funded healthcare system and effective leadership; BC is doing pretty good. We will get through this. #StayHome#covid19Canada#bcpoli#COVID19
