Just fabulous to see so many people out enjoying Hammersmith Bridge on Easter Sunday. 🥰
Hard to imagine six years ago this had 20,000+ motor vehicles on it every day. 😊
Now it is dedicated to walking and wheeling 👍
Today, the Government has announced plans to deliver thousands of new walking, wheeling and cycling routes across England, transforming everyday trips to schools, shops and services.
We're central to delivering this – helping to shape happier, healthier and greener communities.
🚲 Happy #WorldBicycleDay!
Cycling is an affordable way to get around. It's good for health and is climate-friendly.
It's almost exactly one year since we won our case at the Court of Appeal on cuts to cycling and walking funding! https://t.co/SzzM82ksX3
We know children’s lungs don’t develop as well when they grow up surrounded by air pollution: that’s why I had to act.

We'll make our streets safer with hundreds of new pedestrian crossings, 200 more schools streets, safer speed limits, cc-tv at bus stops, tackling pavement clutter like e-bikes & signage - and so much more.
🥵 When we let driving and parked cars monopolize our streets we amplify urban heat stress and lower our quality of life.
Yet another hidden societal cost of private car ownership.
Experts are saying it: SUVs damage our roads more than ordinary passenger cars.
I’ve asked @TfL to look into the effect of supersized SUVs in London as more of these vehicles take up space on London’s roads.

Do we need to put registration plates on bikes?
Police figures show hundreds of cyclists have triggered speed cameras; however, officers are reportedly powerless to give out speeding tickets as bikes have no identifiable markings.
Would enforcing number plates help?
In announcing the UKGov's Road Safety Strategy the English guidance on setting local speed becomes obsolete to be replaced with one based on a Safe System approach. This already exists as the Scottish criteria for 20mph as an urban/village norm as follows. See https://t.co/zaboIdXcIJ
