Period-friendly toilets are not a luxury, they are a necessity.
For many young girls and women, menstruation becomes stressful not because of the period itself, but because of the environment around them. Imagine bleeding for 4–7 days and not having access to clean water, privacy, a door that locks, a bin to dispose of pads or soap to wash your hands. That is not just inconvenient it is undignified.
When schools, workplaces and public spaces lack period-friendly toilets:
• Girls miss classes.
• Women lose productivity.
• Confidence drops.
• Shame increases.
A period-friendly toilet means:
✔️ Privacy and safety
✔️ Clean water and soap
✔️ A covered bin for disposal
✔️ Space to change comfortably
✔️ Access to menstrual products
I believe menstrual health education must go hand in hand with menstrual infrastructure. We cannot teach girls to manage their periods with confidence while ignoring the spaces where they actually do it.
Dignity lives in the details.
And a safe toilet is part of menstrual justice.
Let’s continue the dialogue: What does a period-friendly space mean to you?
We are grateful to @AFRIpads for the partnership we hold: These sanitary products will support girls to stay in school with confidence and dignity.
For many girls, access to menstrual products is the difference between attending class or staying home. By giving girls these essential supplies, we are not only meeting a basic need but also protecting education, restoring confidence and investing in a girls’ future.
This is what Give to Gain looks like:
When we give girls the support they need, we gain stronger communities, healthier futures and empowered leaders.
Together, we can break barriers, keep girls learning and ensure no girl misses school because of her period.
