@MikeBotkin_ Agreed. I did this the opposite and I’m still digging out. Kept saying “no drastic changes” but then it came time and I felt like I was back at the acquisition stage w/ee’s as I changed the way the bus ran. Continuing to be quicker to just adjust as I see the right changes now
@ClintFiore After operating now, I also have learned how key it is to longstanding success. The seller has built their business to fit them. If you can’t get along with them, you’re likely going to have a hard time with everyone else at the company too. Best to consider the “soft” sideearly
@LeadershipAcad1 Do you do this in the morning before they head out or have them come back to the shop at the same time? Or just have it ready when they get back?
Running a local service business shifts your life to understanding the value in relationships.
Not only financially, but you quickly figure out how much more fun it is to build the business with customers you enjoy “just checking in on”
@realEstateTrent Can never tell if its an existing illness holding on or a new one… fairly certain we’re on cold/flu variation number 4 this week but haven’t had a time in the last 5 weeks where someone wasn’t sick
@agar_john thanks for talking yesterday at Holy Spirit! Great to hear your story and definitely hitting training with a new level of inspiration.
Best of luck training for the Ironman in October!
PS. Go Lions!
@glad_cap@LeadershipAcad1 This is how I’ve always looked at it, within reason overtime is actually a good thing especially if you have benefits like health insurance and vacation time
@AndyHVandenBerg Sometimes I do this with acquisitions too.. people that should do it are ones that have to, lots of people told me not to do it. Hard to explain the “have to” aspect
@Slackwatercap Yes, it still hurts cash flow when starting out (at least my experience), but having something to offset comparable to damage caused was huge
@ElliottEHolland@HarvardHBS How important it is that you can trust the seller regardless of diligence findings, there’s always an information gap no matter what you do and hard to recover from dishonest seller
Had a couple bad reviews come in, tried to respond fairly. Mostly things out of our control and we did all we could.
I took my frustration out by giving a bunch of 5-star reviews to local companies I’ve enjoyed working with.
Remember reviews are someone’s livelihood these days
@BrentBeshore @davidngibbo @MainStSummit I think I comment about every time you post something on this one, I recently sent it to a friend and got another level of value with his summary/enthusiasm for the writing. Phenomenal
@LeadershipAcad1 “Self implementing” right now since I don’t think I’m a big enough biz quite yet. Curious what your scorecard includes for metrics, I’m having a difficult time quantifying a few of the things I want to track
